Retro Studios, for taking Metroid to 3D and making fantastic games with it.

Team Ico, for being auteurs and (somehow) not bastards.

Kojima Productions, for producing an experience few can hope to match.

Valve would be on here, if it wasn't for their fairly liberal use of the term 'episodic'. It's not so much that I hate how long the games are taking to develop, I'm sure there are new bells and whistles on everything, it's that they still attempt to call it 'episodic content'.

If it quacks like a duck, and takes an awful long time to get released like a duck...

Nintendo has failed everyone at some time. They have failed third party developers from the N64 onward, with only a handful of good third party games put out on those systems. There was the whole 'nintendo seal of approval' thing back in the NES days where if you were an unlicensed game it was pretty much impossible to sell at certain stores with nintendo products. Pretty shady, unethical monopoly activity back in those days. Don't get me wrong, SNES was pretty much the BEST system of that generation with games I still play today. Original gameboy had a really short battery life and let's not get into the virtual console. Nintendo has failed me as an RPG fan completely the last 13 years or so.

Square puts out too many games not to fail in a few. Never touched a FF game that I didn't like. Square games on handheld systems? Not so much.

I have never really seen how the combination of a tiny screen and short battery life mixes with a 40+ hour game and lots of text to read.

I would say Bethesda, Bioware and Blizzard, but everyone has been screaming them and I'm obviously an rpg fan.

Konami: pretty solid choice, but they released some crap castlevania games a couple years back that I will never forgive them for. Plus they have never made a SotN 2, which would be their greatest game. Need moar alucard!

Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch!, and Rockstar Games.

I really want to say Valve, as I like all their games, and have played all of their games to their fullest extent, and loved the fuck out of every minute, but I just can't say them due to a few decisions they have made in the past. I will always buy their games on PC until they go out of business, but they have failed me.

The bay 12 games title I've played, dwarf fortress, is pretty damn fun so they're in there.
Black isle doesn't have a single bad title to my knowledge, but they have disbanded quite some time ago, so I guess they've failed me?
I guess Blizzard too, all the games from them I've played are good.

Also, ditto on Valve/Bioware.

People will prob hate this but I have to say Bungie, I have never been let down by one of their games, only online players of their games.

Valve, Croteam and perhaps Blizzard (i'll have to see how D3 turns out). I would've said Bethesda if their interpretation of "bugfixing" wasn't so loose it could slip out of a black hole.

Bioware is the last in a long line of developers I thought wouldn't. I suppose Blizzard as well but I have only really played the Diablo series.

Crap forgot about Bethesda (although I haven't played Wet yet)

Blizzard and Bioware.

I haven't played any shitty/average games from Bioware; all games made by them are awesome.

Blizzard earned my love with Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft(Yes, even World of Warcraft).

On the flip side, Ubisoft has failed me every single time.
I don't think that can be true. Ubisoft has produced some great games. Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six. There's some definite quality in there.
Sorry, I was not clear.

Beyond Good and Evil was an excellent game for all of ten minutes until I entered the 'hub' zone and experienced the worst slowdown I've ever seen on a computer that can definitely handle it.

Dark Messiah was amazing every few minutes, which was how often the framerate slowed to a permanent crawl that I had to fix by quicksaving and quickloading.

I found Prince of Persia finicky and somewhat poorly done control-wise. The concept was very good but it just suffered from problems, IMO.

I rather disliked Assassin's Creed - nice concept, but the fact that every guard and target was apparently telepathic/clairvoyant, and that the only challenge present was in fighting off boredom as scripted waves of guards came at me (who, by the way, could rarely be effectively fought by anything other than holding both triggers and using counters), well, those were very bad things.

(In no particular order)
Valve, Blizzard, Bungie.

There are a few devs that I've only played one game of theirs, but thought it was awesome:
2K, Timegate, Bethesda, Epic.

Looking Glass Studios, though unfortunately, we failed them.

(To quote the guy on the first page, but still.)

Valve, I've loved all of their games. And they're probably the only company I am guilty of being a fanboy for.

Valve most likely. My sister and I both love Left 4 Dead and my brother adores Team Fortress 2.
