I keep hearing there is. But if there is I can't find a name or information over google search. All I can find is that some people can have genes that make them gain weight quicker. I'm starting to think its just an excuse for people to allow themselves to keep eating and feel okay about it?

Many diseases can lead to increased weight, especially those which affect the thyroid. Many medications can also cause weight gain.

Well, less of a disease and more of a curse some, but usually it's a problem of eating too goddamn much vs doing too goddamn little.

Some diabetes certainly don't help. I'm 6ft and weight 57kg. I have pretty good genetics, since I can eat Six sittings at once, if I want to and I do. There are also some diseases that apparently mess with your metabolism.

There are some disorders (particularly those affecting the thyroid) that may make it harder to lose weight, but they are very rare. We fat people usually just eat to much and never leave our man caves.

There is no disease that makes you gain weight per say. There are medical factors that make it easier or harder to lose weight. Every human naturally "burns" calories every minute you are alive. Some people "burn" calories at different rates, this is what we mean when we talk about metabolism. Some genetic conditions and diseases can cause a persons metabolism to change so that they burn fewer calories and gain weight while still eating the same amount. However every human's weight is equal to the amount the eat minus the amount they "burn" and excrete. Anything else would violate the law of conservation of mass.

One type I know of is called Muscle dysmorphia, a disorder in which a person is obsessed with building muscle mass. It usually involves eating huge food portions, exercising constantly, and taking muscle stimulants and anabolic steroids to keep up their bodybuilder image.

Doesn't necessarily make them fatter, but they gain a lot of weight from muscle.

Prader?Willi syndrome. [http://pwsa.co.uk/main.php?catagory=1] Unless you strictly control the diet, the sufferer will become obese as they have no mechanism for dealing with appetite.

Malnutrition, ironically, will also cause stomach swelling and seeming to be overweight.(As most of the kids in Cambodia etc. will prove)

ooohlookamountainofburgersimustconsume .... itis.

No disease will put weight on for you NONE.

There are those that increase appetite, those that reduce the burning down process thus leaving more mass on you, those that make it incredibly hard to lose weight once it's on.

There is, however, no disease known to man that will make you overweight on it's own without the help from a massive pile of food.

The only exception (but not a disease) is child birth, not really along the same lines but some women keep a bit to a lot of the baby weight they gained during pregnancy. It can't be helped.

I think there are very few diseases that can increase your weight into the "obese" range, but a lot of medications do cause a large percentile to gain weight. I'm sure I've been ninja'd, but I believe any number of complications from some form of thyroid disease can lead to weight gain.

It's the buff cousin of Axorexia Nervosa. It's a psychological condition, I don't think it's what the OP is on about.

Otherwise, the question has been answered, there's not a specific disease, but there are hormonal imbalances, medications and genetic factors that will affect an individuals weight gain/loss.

It usually comes down to, eat less volume, snack less, eat less fatty food, move more.

If that doesn't work see a GP.

You've sort of contradicted yourself. Those which reduce the metabolism (like thyroid conditions), can cause weight gain with normal amounts of food as well as make weight loss difficult. No massive piles required. There are also plenty of people who might have subclinical hypothyroidism, and might never actually be told they need to eat less than average to stay an average weight.

One of the many reasons that standardized daily values are crap.

No contradiction at all.

I said no disease "on it's own" will make you gain weight.

You still have to be eating to put that weight on no matter what.

There are certain diseases that can cause problems with weight, but the number of people who actually have them is far outnumbered by the number of people that merely claim to have them because they believe stuffing their face is an action they have no responsibility for.

There are but it is not nearly as common as you would think from hearing people who are overweight blame it.

An incredibly vast majority of overweight people do not suffer from any disease that is responsible.
