Er, I'm only 13, so not much has gone that bad in my life.
However there is still something that has shaped me into who I am today: Calvin and Hobbes. Never have I been moved as much by Bill Waterson's genius.
Same here, the man is brilliant, I taught myself to read from those books.

My first punch-up at primary school, and I won! It made me incredibly confident for the rest of my education, and it made me quick-thinking and charismatic - I had to talk my way out of suspension with the principal. Funnily enough, my parents were really proud that I won the fight... I have badass parents.

Sometimes it's a moment; when you realize how fucking unfair things can be...

I was on a d.a.r.e-like program for kids in 4th grade. For those not in the states; these type of programs are where cops come in and teach kids how to identify and stay away from drugs and sexual predators. (these programs have been proven to be only slightly effective so our department retooled it significantly)

We were going over alcohol abuse and the like. At the end the kids took simple tests. One of the questions was "What is an alcoholic?" the right answer for these 8-9 year olds was 'someone who uses alcohol as a drug not a drink' or something like that. One little boy wrote;
"Someone who breaks promises" and there was a wrinkled spot on his paper like it got wet (from a teardrop I think).
When I read that I seriously almost cried. A few weeks later this child was given to his grandparents.

Changing from public to private school really helped me.
I actually realized i had academic potential.

Also, when i had food poisoning (a serious one), I had visions of ravens and death. To this day I'm not sure if it was real or not, but it made me appreciatre life a lot more.

Dostoevsky wrote about vivid dream imagery like that in Crime and Punishment, he's awesome

I don't work in health care and never have but I've assisted people who do. With my magic luck I got stuck in the wing with the "crazies". Nothing will scare or depress you more than a man that is only there in a physical sense. I remember this one old guy who would always walk around and had flashbacks about his life. He would always call out for "Ireney", his wife, who was long dead. He would always say his heart was hurting as he looked for her and no one could bring themselves to tell him she was dead. He was there for 3 days and then he died of massive cardiac arrest as the incompetent staff frantically looked for the right gear.

Broke up with my latest girlfriend last night. I'd went through hell of fighting with my friends, family, running from home and a whole lot more shit to be with her. In the end she told me simply she didn't love me anymore and left me to go be with another guy. I suppose now the torture's over though and I'm prepared for the worst in future. When shit gets down to a certain point, it can only go up, right?

My friend suicide is the worst case of selfishness on the face of the earth! I am sorry you almost had to deal with it. Man some people...

Suicidal people aren't really selfish, per se. I've been down that path before and it's not pretty. It's more on that someone feels so hopeless and trapped that they don't know how to live anymore, so the obvious solution they see is death.

It's definitely a miserable and horrible thing, but you shouldn't hold it against your mother, Jark. Guilt and feelings of failure are only going to drive her further, and if she's still depressed or feeling suicidal, you should talk to her and reassure her things aren't so bad. The power a loved one has to get through to these kinds of people is fairly immense, and with the right words you can probably help her out a lot more than a psychologist or doctor ever could.

Breaking my leg, put in a cast for 5 months, gained weight, never did lose it, still struggle with it everyday, currently its hindering me from joining the military.
I always thought that not getting into the army was a good thing.
Um no, its the greatest thing you could do for your country.
One question... Are you brainwashed or something, cause dying for your leaders (not your country) is not the greatest thing you could do.

I said joining the military, you know, to protect the country and your way of life? That greatest thing you can do for it. Learn to read.
What I meant was... You know what, never mind, you do what you want to do and I'll mind my own business.

Coming to university was a big step for me, I used to be very much a loner, but now I'm a lot more social as well as being able to stay independant. However, it's also a source of a problem (i.e. the girl I liked, who happens to be my flatmate, is now going out with another flatmate, and living with them both is a bit awkward, even though my feelings for her have passed now I'm still wary...). I suppose my uncle dying a few years ago, then my grandad the same year, helped make me focus a bit more, and it's also made me realise I want to enjoy life more (in particular, my chosen career is related to my interests, and I would love to travel the world and live life to the full).

Oh, many things changed my life. A great amount of things that I won't detail here, because some may be boring (Like my first trip to the seaside.) and some are very personal.

But I can say one: Well, there was this girl...
