Is there anything that you will refuse to do in a game?

I won't do the whole slaving thing in Fallout or other games. My friend calls me an idiot for it but I just really really hate it. Sure sometimes I'll kill a slave or whatever (the ones that seem to want to keep getting in your way/block doors) but 99% of the time I'll be putting my crosshairs on the slaver.

I also have a hatred toward drugs, though in fallout I pretend that the name is true and they're "chems" just because it's more like a RPG stat booster and less like a "I'm high in the clouds" kinda thing

playing evil, i just can't do it, as much as i try i always lean towards good.
Even in Mass Effect, i can't play the renegade.. i seem to always take the lawful route to sucess

Can't kill someone who begs for their life, like in gta4 where you have the choice to throw the guy off the buliding

couldn't do it

I will not kill sheep in Age of Empires 2.
I remember that my cousin had a similar problem with the game when she watched me for a bit. She wished that I could kill enemy cavalry units without killing the horses.

In Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor...

Depending on which route through the story you take, your final mission can be to actually KILL God. (Yes, THE God.) I just couldn't bring myself to do that. I reloaded an old save and took a different route instead.

Also, i'm not much for killing kids.
I'm the polar opposite.

If I possibly can kill a child, I can't not. (Triple negative?)

Children irk me so much in real life that the children in games have to suffer for it.

Unless it's a game like Northland where if I kill the kids, I don't get any workers.

I'll join in the "Evil; can't do it" crowd. In Fallout, I played naturally inclined for good. When I played through it again, I actively told myself, "I'm going to play a prick, and do evil. Nuke Megaton, etc." The best I could do was neutral... that is, until I pushed the red button and earned myself a suite in Tenpenny tower. XD I haven't picked up the game since then, though. I do feel bad for nuking those poor fools.

Hell, crushing Morias' dreams of making that survival book may have given me a burly perk, but she is SOO crushed!

There were several things in Mass Effect I couldn't do.

I never kill the Rachni Queen, even on my renegade characters. She's just kinda sitting there, begging for her life, and something just screams "DON'T DO IT!" in the back of my mind.
Hmm... I've been quite the opposite. I always thought, "She's gonna come back and try to take over the universe!"

Thanks! I always wondered how to do that. Fixed.

So, I think a small part of the gaming experience is breaking social laws and our usual ethics. The vast majority of people who play Grand Theft Auto or similar crime themed sandbox games don't regularly engage in haphazard manslaughter, and this is part of the fun for a lot of people. Evil characters are often more fun to play than good characters when we are given the choice.

However, I've noticed that there are some things in games that are beyond my character to do, even in a virtual world when nobody's watching. I don't engage in child killing in Fallout or Fallout 2 (Of course, this has practical concerns in game.) I will not run a government with Mercantilism or State Property in Civilization IV, or a Planned Economy in Alpha Centauri. And I am desperately trying to dredge up a third example because I like aesthetics in my writing, but I am failing to do so because it's getting a little late over here.

Of course, there aren't any rational ethical problems with doing these things in game. You're not impacting real people, just a bunch of transistors. But, it just doesn't feel right and I resign myself to it.

So, as the title suggests, has an option ever popped up in a game that you have a similar reaction to? Or am I just pathetically innocent?
In fallout3, you can't kill the children anyway. Even with the fatman. I've tried.
As for me, necrophelia I thought wouldn't have been one I'd engage in, til i played Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy). Didn't have much of a choice in the matter in that game....

I would do anything in a game.

I would do anything in a game.

I would do anything in a game.

But I won't do that.

I feel that, bro. I killed her once and seeing her scream and disappear into accid was terrible even though I was supposed to be a hardass renegade
