One of the main reasons is because they see it as "mindless" entertainment (even though there is really no such thing). They think you should spend your time doing something productive, like learning, or getting exercise. Not "rotting your brain."
I agree, my dad can watch sienfeld for hours and I can play Zelda for hours, he says I rots my brain, but really Zelda is a pullze game, I use my brain, while HE is rotting his brain watching a t.v. show thats amin selling point is the show about fucking nothing! Only thing gameres are hurting is our social lives, and eyes.

Just tell them that the purpose of life is to reproduce (purpose of, not meaning of), and they should be grateful that you aren't spending your time after school doing that.
Being ostracized isn't really what I'm going for.

I think most parents are like that since they didn't grow up with today's technology and don't see the attraction. Like girls wanting ponies. I don't see that attraction and try my hardest to show my distaste for it to my relative's kids, but in the end they want one anyway. Give it about 2 generations. People will be saying "What the hell is analog?"

OMG IT'S ALREADY STARTING!!!

I meant analog like...cassette tapes, rotary phone, TV signals (until February something at least), radio signals (not including Sirius/XM), etc. things that used frequency and range. Basically anything not digital, which is binary.

If your dad disapproves of you playing games, why not make your own game instead? Teach yourself how to program in Python (it's easy, srsly) with Pygame, it'll impress the hell out of him. If your da's the techie type he may even want to join in and help.

As for dealing with the condescending "games are bad for you" parental types, just remind them that playing Call of Duty or LittleBigPlanet exercises your mind more than watching the latest American Idol. Parents always stereotype games because they are unfamiliar with them but more often, watch they watch on TV is worse. Remind them of that, every now and then.

If thats ALL you do then i woudl have to agree with your father that its unhealthy.

Dont get be wrong, Im not a social butter fly my self.

However if you are going out with people ever once and a while its fine.

And in terms of surfing online, its fine as long as it isnt the only thing you do, stop and read a book for a while to break it up (it always seem to help em do better when ever im in a gaming funk)

That actually sounds really cool how would I get that program?
