Yeah, but for Battlefield 3 will need a way beefier GFX card than a 220.

Okay, haha the details are HERE:

We you have an AM3 socket so any of the phenom 2's should be fine if you don't want to go through the hassle of buying a new motherboard to get an intel chip.

What GPU did you upgrade to?
I put in a GeForce GT 220
Yep, it will kind of kill some of the performance from the chip but not anything terrible noticable.

Will also need a GFX update, a 460 should be enough at a reasonable price, 6850 if you want to go with ATi.

It says you have an AM2+ mobo and a AM3 CPU. I need to learn more about AMD, this has me confused.

EDIT It seems that AM2+ takes AM3 CPUs too...

I stand by what I said before then... The phenom 2's should work fine if you don't want to get the i5-2500K.
Okay so if I'm getting the i5, i want a "p/h/z 67 with a 1155 socket" right?

I've just looked up your board and it doesn't seem like that one will support AM3 chips so upgrading with your current board is pretty much out of the question.

That means you need a new board, CPU and RAM so you can upgrade to whatever you like/can afford.

An LGA1155 board would give you a lot of options and some future proofing. LGA1155 is the slot on the board, which determines CPU compatibility. All second generation Core processors are LGA1155, so right the way from lowly dual core i3s to the amazing i5 2500k and the overkill i7 2600k. My opinion would be to go for an i5 2500k on a P68 motherboard.

I couldn't recommend an AMD, cause I don't see the point in buying equipment which is already obsolete.

TL;DR Save up for an i5 2500k and a P68 motherboard

EDIT - Just seen some of the above posts, odd. A quick search suggested that it couldn't take an AM3 chip.
its not a great motherboard and it has a TDP limit of 95W but as it is AM2+ compatible it ought to be fine with an AM3 CPU. Especially as he has an AM3 CPU in there at the moment! A Phenom x4 would be pushing past that 95w limit but an X3 ought to be fine.

Personally I'd either just upgrade the GFX card or upgrade the GFX card and replace the motherboard, CPU and RAM. I'm not sure it would be worth the effort to upgrade the CPU on that board.

Alright, this is probably one of my last questions, would this work well for my motherboard? It's a Z68 with a 1155 socket.
