Its a very good satire of the, frankly, embarrassing "Should Evolution be taught in schools" question asked to Beauty pageant entrants.

This is the second time something like this has happened isn't it? Gay marriage was the first thing (i think)

I now realise why most of my jokes are never understood...
People just don't get sarcasm.
Maybe it's because i watch a lot of sarcastic comedy, but this is pretty blatantly a parody.

Same here, bro. Same here. I honestly don't understand how anyone in the early 21st century can cling onto the concept that evolution might be a hoax. We have empirical proof of its application and existence all around us, as Miss Vermont said and not only that, but I clearly don't see how we couldn't conceivably reconcile religious dogma and evolution.

Creationism is a fluke. A two thousand year-old fluke that needs to be corrected, but in a way that would still be fair for those of us who still choose to believe in a higher power. I personally don't, but it's a fundamental right. You can't stop people from wanting to believe in God, Buddha, Allah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster or from wanting to define their lives based on the belief that if they do this or that instead of other things, they'll end up in a culturally defined happy place after dying. For some people, this might be the only thing that justifies the existence of morality or the lasting concepts of Good and Evil. You can't just strip that away from everyone in one go. I'm okay with the notion that humans are fundamentally amoral, but others aren't.

Considering that, there has to be a way to retcon Christianity, seeing as even the freaking Pope recognizes evolution. He might still follow Christian eschatology as a matter of faith, but science has come to far outweigh religion when it comes to understanding where we come from. There has to be a way to integrate evolution into standard religious practices - even if it means drastically editing the Book of Genesis.

Frankly, I don't think it'd be so bad. The Bible was written back when we still huddled around campfires at night and saw ghosts and goblins in every leaping shadow, after dark. Having gone past that, why can't we just accept that we were wrong and correct that mistake, like anyone else would do in the case of scientific doctrine?

No, this is a sketch from a while back satirizing the "should evolution be taught in schools?" bullshit the worst bits of America have going on.

Glad you dug it up though, it's much funnier than I remember.

She said it. "We live in America". I rest my case. ...
Shes not wrong. if you live in North/South America you live IN America.

Well, the first one is from Alabama.

...

XD but seriously, this is a joke (you can tell since they give you a link to what its making fun of). Its just a pretty good one. Like the tina fey/sarah palin ones SNL used to do.

EDIT:

in the real video though Miss Arizona and Miss Alaska seem to have the right idea.

In response to the original 15 minute video....Anyone watch it all the way through? Miss Alabama was the ONLY one who answered "no". Weird....don't move to Alabama I guess.

a) It's obviously scripted.
b) I'll be a monkey's uncle if those are real candidates for Miss America.
c) They're making multiple logical fallacies traditionally used to attack other "controversial" subjects (i.e: they make reference to traditional arguments against the teaching of evolution such as "there's no way of knowing it's true", "it's just a theory" and "people should believe what they want").

In other words: it's a sketch, and the fact that anyone can't see that shows how easy it is for some to merely assume that everyone's an idiot (except them).

What do you mean? This is totally real. Are you not aware of the current debates surrounding the teaching of maths in public schools? They are trying to force their ideas on our innocent and naive children!

I'm not sure why people aren't getting the joke, the video even links to what they're parodying.

And I find the original more entertaining then the parody.

Yeah. I think it's just a joke.....or at least I hope for humanity it is.
On the other hand though it feels just stupid enough so it could be true.

It's a parody of the Evolution question (I know people have already said that but felt it needed to be repeated before the rage party comes in on this thinking it's real).

To be fair those lasses did a good job.

Sometimes when people try to fake stupid it doesn't come off very well but they got it right.

Had me giggling aswell.
