now i was scrolling down facebook today and i came across this little tidbit of "wisdom"

dear girls,
if he pauses his video game just to text u back.....
MARRY HIM!!! ¢¾

my comment follows. really.....REALLY!, THAT is what this world is coming to do young people these days really have such an abhorrent lack of basic manners, and or social skills that they cannot regularly pause a VIDEO GAME, in order to interact with other human beings.

Now i am an avid gamer and i can honestly say i spend more time gaming than being a social person. but there are perfectly valid reasons behind this that i wont get into unless asked or questioned.Nonetheless if i were to say "get a call or text" asking me to join some friends in an activity of some sort no matter how boring it may sound 90% of the time i would shut off the game drop the controller and go. I also would trust most of the people in my circle of friends to do the same.

but apparently things in this world have changed

(edit) maybe im just a grump

(edit) Yes i get its a joke Yes i get its facebook BUT understand that people are starting to take this "fad" seriously

It's just another Facebook girl status, nothing to get uppity about.
No real discussion value in this thread though...

Maybe it was a joke? I can't possibly think that is a serious remark.

You know, that group right there?

Its not a serious thing. Its a pisstake of a few people who do forget to text back while gaming (me included, but I don't usually hear the phone go off).

Things haven't changed, you're just taking some people having a laugh far to seriously.

Edit:

This thread has been up for about a minute and some of the replies are quite eye opening. Look people, facebook has these pages you can make. Many people use them to make jokes which usually over exaggerate a behavior.

This isn't anything new. Nobody actually believes that crap.

Edit edit:

In fact, here's one of the page's in question.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=219144315046

Of course now its completely covered in spam (that tends to happen, my page however, hasn't because I keep banning the fuckers) but i'm sure if you go far enough down you'll see the people over exaggerating like crazy because to them and by extension of that, most people who understand that type of humour, it's funny.

Hey, stall posted the best thing ever in response to this.

Texting = social skills and interaction with human beings now?

Well first off it's unfair to generalise an entire generation on someones facebook post.

Secondly, I don't need to pause my game if I get a text message, It's basically an e-mail. Now I could understand if the person was in the same room with me but you can't put any weight behind texts they're silly.

If it's important call the person.

In all honesty mate this behaviour is not exclusive to gamers. Most young people these days really don't give a rat's arse about 'manners and decency' and would pretty much not bother responding to anything unless they consciously wanted to. Aside from the fact the new generation X has so much more liberty in how they interact with their fellow man and behave there is a sharp increase in declining attention spans thanks to the high consumerist go-go lifestyle the west currently has. (Think that's all just hot air? Ask yourself why America has more people diagnosed with stuff like ADD when countries like Japan have so fewer cases. Must be something in the water supply.)

Thing is, people are treating each other as commodities and they really don't view people as people anymore. I actually blame this on things like facebook treating friends like some sort of currency, but i won't go into that. It just feeds into that whole "your objective is to get as many sycophantic douchebags through your hormone raging high school years as well as screw as many girls / guys / whatever in order to further cement your position as Alpha of the Pack". Societal values have changed; it's all about the "me" rather than the "you". People are far more hedonistic and have realised that the only way to get on in the world is to "look out for number one". Sad, but true - reinforced by a very peer-driven culture that forces you to pick and choose your friends and moments that will both give you the most desired outcome and keep yourself elevated above others.

agreed. texting is not a social skill and it is barely social interaction.

If it's on Facebook and the poster is either a girl with duckface or a guy with his profile pic of him shirtless, you can pretty much disregard anything they say.

But yeah, it's pretty much a joke comment.
...Unless you're dating a properly hardcore gamer then it's progress if they pause a game to make plans or talk or whatever.

Um... It's a text. People ignore texts to do things that don't take so much time/energy/concentration because IT'S A TEXT. If it were important they'd call. More importantly, why so angry about the dangblasted kids today because of a facebook comment? I say random shit all the time on facebook. My recent post "You know when your kid goes ninja you've done something right as a mother" doesn't mean I base my views on parenting solely on how much ass the kid can kick.

I chose gaming over socializing any day , Video games don't judge me , Women do . I wish i was joking , but i'm not. I'm so socially akward that i avoid any and all socializing with people ( men or women , but i'm more uncomfortable around women , again wish i was joking ). I honestly do prefer to play games than to pick up a phone ( god i hate talking on the phone )even out of courtesy .

Edit : Oh i'm 22 years old btw.

normally i would say ohh hahaha funny and agree on it being a joke, but i can tell you without doubt this person was dead serious not the marriage part but the if he pauses thing being the focus. now i can admit that most gamers i know are not like that but somebody has to have set an example and gaining some grip and in my eyes giving gamers an even worse image than what the media sets us out to be

Meh. I ignore texts all the damn time.

Also, judging any given generation based on facebook updates, eh? Yeah, that's some solid reasoning right there.

You're overreacting. If someone thinks that their pausing of the game means that the person matters to them, then let them believe that. I fail to see why you need to get wound up about it to be honest. That sort of comment can be a *look at, snort, read something better* deal.

.....I can take my hands off of my keyboard but I talk to my friends about stuff while playing so....yea...and that's just teenage girls being silly. and if you ask me texting is the most inefficient way to communicate ever devised.
