BECAUSE GAMERS ARE THE ONLY ENTHUSIASTS WHO ARE PRONE TO PUTTING THEIR HOBBY AHEAD OF MANNERS, AM I RIGHT!!!

Seriously, the behaviour described (not pausing the game to text someone back) isn't any different from a sports fan who won't get off the sofa during a game to answer his phone or whatever.

Gamers are just people. They aren't a special section of the population with specific rules and guidelines and should be studied separately from the rest of humanity. They have their good guys and their douchebags just like any other subgroup. If there is any quantifiable change in the behaviour of the average gamer, it's because gaming went from a niche hobby enjoyed by few to a medium that rivals motion pictures in scope and funding, with a vastly broader audience than ever before. So a lot of the new people are douches. Nothing unexpected there.

And young kids are arseholes. You were an arsehole when you were a kid. However, you didn't know it then, so you didn't pay any attention to it and therefore you don't remember being an arsehole. But you were. I was too. And as we get older and stop being arseholes (well, some of us) we start noticing that kind of behaviour, which is why every generation is always bitching about how rude kids are becoming. If that were true, we'd have devolved into road-warrior levels of anarchy by now.

I'm not a hardcore gamer just highly antisocial off the net. If I actually answer my phone or a text it is progress. And I rarely pause games to do that UNLESS I am in a conversation with someone I don't talk to often ie: my best mate. Her schedule is..yeah currently she has 3 jobs. In another week 2 jobs and school so she doesn't have a lot of time. She gets priority.

Meh. I ignore texts all the damn time.
Also, this. Though half the time it is a matter of I don't have my phone set very loud and tend to lose my phone in my bed when it isn't hooked up to my charger. Lose it/sit on it/lay on it/shove it under pillows and blankets and the plethora of other shite on my bed that takes up half the bed......

OT: Tis not a basis for marrying someone just because they pause a video game. I can only imagine how bad that relationship would be. o_O

Way to overreact.

What is truly wrong about all this is people (you) keep taking offense at frickin everything.
Just stop.

It does not matter.

What?

So you weren't a complete spazz when you were a kid? You were. We all were (except Stephen Fry).

To be honest if that joke hadn't been done to death already then I might have chuckled. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it was a joke.

You want all the little kids off you FPS multiplayer matches? Pass a law that requires all kids below the age of 14 to wear that vest/jacket that simulates being shot at in the FPSs. If that doesn't scare or freak the kids out, then we're truly dealing with little pricks.
