I think as far as consoles go, the Xbone's pretty decent looking. Really don't like the PS4's look though.
That said, I don't really *like* either in terms of looks. I don't think consoles have been pretty since before the NES, when you were basically buying a wooden box, and even then they're just kinda OK looking. I don't know, plastic's never looked good to me. I guess plastic devices are supposed to look "sleek" or something, but they always just look cheap and unpleasant to me (This coming from a man who currently has 7 different plastic electronic devices, excluding his computer on his desk and feels like he'd be unable to live without any of them.)

As far the big two are concerned; the PS4 edges out in front for me. I love sharp angles in my boxes; plus it reminds my of my Silverstone Raven RV01 PC Case 
It's a black box, at least it doesn't look like a giant penis or an apple product. People that start getting all hot and bothered about the asethetics of a game console are a step below the techno freaks that cream their pants when an image is shown at 1080p as opposed to 720p.

I liked how the ps2 and the gameboy advance sp looked. The variety in color of those consoles helped a lot. I don't think the coming gen of consoles looks ugly, they just look rather minimalistic, designed to blend in without attracting too much attention to themselves.
When you said "ugliest console generation" I figured you meant something more meaningful, like how internet access effects fandom or how console makers are trying to hop on the freedom restriction bandwagon that big business & politicians are driving around town.
No, I'd have to say the consoles of the 3ed generation were the least impressive looking, with the SG-1000 & Famicom being the biggest eyesores.

I think the original Xbox and the chunky fat PS2's look awful. The slim versions always look much better. I think there's ugly and nice looking consoles in every generation. Nintendo ones usually look the nicest to me, they just look more like a console. I can't explain it, but if you asked me to draw a games console, my first thought would be a SNES or a Wii. Maybe it's a nostalgic or retro thing.

I would call them the best looking generation so far. They actually look like they will blend in with the rest of the sleek equipment found in a home entertainment system. The various PS2 versions came close but they have finally got it right by the looks of it.
To be honest, looking back I don't think a single console that actually looked good, with maybe the exception of the redesigned PSOne. Though I wish they'd stop making consoles black. Black never look clean no matter how much you dust, and as someone who prefers to do as little actual cleaning as possible this is an important factor in my purchasing decision.
I'll be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less that both of them look like they're copying the Monolith from 2001: a Space Odyssey. Do they play games? If the answer to that question is "Yes," then I really don't give a damn what they look like. I mean, I bought the Gamecube (cute, small, square, PURPLE) and had a blast, goofy color and form be damned.
