Better than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but still pretty bad.

Nowhere near as good as his earlier films.

It's not so much that it's terrible (Though I thought it was pretty terrible) but more that this particular adaptation of Alice in Wonderland could not have missed the point more if they were turned 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Alice in Wonderland can be pretty messed up when viewed from some angles, but Burton takes those elements and goes way too far with it making the entire thing, moody and dark and serious. Which can be fine, but this is honestly one of the most humorless movies Burton has ever made, and Burton is at his BEST when he's inserting humor and light into dark twisted movies like this.

He tries to make the whole thing reasonable and logical, which not only ruins the setting on its face but rips open plot holes. The size changing stuff for example, if everyone was completely bonkers (like they're supposed to be) it would make sense why they'd never try to use that as a weapon, but since they're not utter lunatics it just means they are actively ignoring a possible weapon against the Red Queen. The art style is WAY too fucking dark even for Burton but especially for Wonderland which is supposed to be bright and vibrant, which just serves to make it all feel even more miserable. He finally might have found the perfect role for Johnny Depp to just fuck around for a few hours with (Which let's face it it's fun to watch Johnny Depp just fuck around) but Burton forces him to try and be serious and reasonable.

And I honestly want to punch Burton in the face for this cause he's done it like 3 or 4 times now, you do not get Christopher-Goddamned-Lee in your movie, a man who could read a phone book and make it sound like a great epic for the ages, and give him less than a full paragraph of lines.

I can't really get mad any more it's just a really high level of frustration, it Frustrates me that I know like 90% of the people involved in this thing are capable of being good, but we got THIS instead.
