Depends on how you game, I consider an addiction something that you blow off responsibilities and important commitments for. If you go to work/school and just game with your free time then that's fine, it's no different from ppl who spend time playing sports, exercise, watching TV, or building a model boat, But if your someone who will ignore your crying kid because you wanna finish a quest first, or call out sick from work because you don't wanna miss double xp thursday then ya, you got an addiction.

I think it depends on the person and the circumstances, as I smoker I could give up gaming far easier than I could give up cigarettes (much to my shame) but some of my friends would find it impossible to stop gaming.
Yeah, there are different levels of addiction.

People say addiction is "If you can't live without it, then you are addicted" but I find that a bit flawed. If I were to drop you on a desert Island with no video games or cigarettes, you would live... You would hate it.. but you would live.

If you're addicted to gaming then it's an addiction :/

I don't think it makes sense calling anything an addiction the way you're implying. I wouldn't even call smoking an addiction, it's just something you can become addicted to easily.

I want to know whether you guys think playing videogames is an addiction and if so why and would you say you were addicted yourself?
I think it can be, and yes, I was. Made me bail on my GCSEs. It's still hard to stop myself getting sidetracked from more important things.

I also agree with some of the other posters it's more where you draw the line on what an addiction is, an example when I get into a good book I'll spend every free minute I can reading it, however I wouldn't claim to have an addiction to reading.
