Macs have become a hacker's dream machine with holding records for the fastest computers to hack. Now none of your personal info is secure and it can't be fix anytime soon as it's part of the Mac OS X kernel.

Oh gawd, I've been telling work mates that for ages, it's not that they're secure, it's that no-one bothers making security for them...

Well, if you don't tell everybody, they won't know until after the hackers have messed with their computers.

Macs have security issues, not a surprise. News is posted on microsoft owned news site, also not a surprise. The only truly secure OS is an uninstalled one, to be quite frank.

It was just a matter of time... someone was bound to find a flaw in Macs security and now all those commercials saying how Macs have no viruses are going to be obsolete.

I mean I understand the people at the security council being told, but why did the media have to blab about it?

Do you see the irony in that your news source for Mac issues is Microsoft's MSNBC?

However it be, this only works if the user installed a malicious program like pirated software, and it only targets the Safari browser. It's not so much an innate Mac vulnerability as it is pebkac [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEBKAC].

This bug doesn't only target the iPhone. Here's a quote from a forbes.com article [http://www.forbes.com/2009/07/28/hackers-iphone-apple-technology-security-hackers.html]:
They say they've also found a similar texting bug in Windows Mobile that allows complete remote control of Microsoft-based devices. Another pair of SMS bugs in the iPhone and Google's Android phones would purportedly allow a hacker to knock a phone off its wireless network for about 10 seconds with a series of text messages. The trick could be repeated again and again to keep the user offline, Miller says. Though Google has patched the Android flaw, this second iPhone bug also remains unpatched, he adds.

I have to agree with your statement. Also, that makes what 2 issues to Mac products vs the what 500k + out there for PC? I'm not seeing this as a worry to most Mac users.

Edit: I love how they say that Mac's are not advancing rapidly enough to keep up to date. How many years was it between XP before Vista came out? What about that fact that Vista was a lame attempt to copy the looks of Macs OS? Oh, and what about the fact that Mac's update almost every week not every 9 months. The Leopard OS hasn't been out long at all and there's another coming out this September. It'll be at least another 3 years plus before PC has one out. Not trying to start an argument or sound biased but just merely pointing out those facts.

Well, even if the media tells people, the people who really want to hack computers are going to be finding ways to do it long before the media tells people about security risks. I have no evidence, but I don't think that the number of hackers is going to rise just because the mainstream media talks about something like this.

Microsoft's own news site is their secret weapon? I really don't think we have a lot to worry about in that case.

it was predictable. as mac gain market share, it become more popular for hackers. Mac fanboys claim that there's no viruses for mac, but they are wrong, it's just that nobody care to make some. But the day they will start... remember that most macs dont even have an antivirus...

chances snow leopard will be more secure... we will see
