Is your online persona the same on every website?

I would say it is hard to be someone other than myself. Guess I shouldn't get into acting.

I guess I mix it up a bit just because on different websites the expectations of my behavior and culture are different. Eliciting a different response from me depending the place.

I do try to mix it up a bit, just because I'm paranoid the internet is stalking me. With good reason, my culture instilled paranoia. My parents taught me that God is always watching. Kids made rumors about me in high school. And the United States government is apparently spying on me. It isn't paranoid to think you're always being watched when you probably are. Or at least people have been telling me I'm being watched since I was a kid.

It feels like if I act is an overly unique and obviously me fashion on every website, people will connect the dots. Illogical? Yes. Paranoid? Yes. But I've been raised in a paranoia instilling society. I try to act at least a little different everywhere I go. I also use different usernames.

Because if you don't. You're going to get into an argument on the internet. And someone will use something you said on a forum 5 years ago to ridicule you in an internet debate today. And then they'll show it to the mods. And then the mods will be like "oh I don't like you". And it's just a whole mess I'd just rather avoid. Different usernames everywhere.

I'm pretty much the same everywhere though because I fail at being anything other than me.

On here, I tend to go a little more formal, but I'm not here much and still feel like a stranger. Probably because the boards are so big compared with all other places I go. I'm more of a passer-by.

On youtube, I just can't resist cracking stupid jokes. If I think they're funny, they usually get no responses. If they're spontaneous and I'm not really sure about posting them, sometimes my inbox gets flooded with answers. When I go back, it sometimes happens that those comments got upvoted surprisingly much. Sometimes I don't know why, but it means I'll be getting responses over months.
I'm not doing some stupid shit where I ask for thumbs up, and I don't get back to check wheter or not my dumb jokes get upvoted. I only notice it when people respond a lot.

On a Twilight hater forum, I'm a bit more expressive and open about myself. We bash Twilight and some other stupid shit, vent our hate a little bit, then dive into a stupidly deep and long winded analysis of every aspect about the books. It's all in good fun and in a very playful way. It's relaxing, entertaining and educating, but I'd never act like such a fanatic troll anywhere else.

On my main game forum, I don't really post all that much anymore. Usually, I dig up a lot of news and sources, and sometimes comment if there's something no one else seemed to have brought up yet. My way of posting is probably the closest to my real personality. A joke, small rants, more or less lengthy discussions here and there, but never as much as elsewhere. You don't really get a lot of debates going there anymore.

I'm the same, I'd find it very hard too keep up with acting differently everywhere.

I'm always me, I troll on Youtube and I'm fairly civil here but that's just my two different reactions to two different communities.

I only really frequent this site and youtube, and I don't really notice any drastic changes from how I am in real life, in short, I am fairly quiet, unless I stumble upon a topic I have a real interest in, in which case I like to put forth my opinion.

Well the only other boards I frequent are /b/ and /mlp/, and if I acted the same there as I did here, I would be hit with a barrage of racial slurs and promptly ignored. So no, I do not have the same persona there as I do here.

I normally stay the same on any website, but as I am normally very cynical, I try to keep that down, so as not to attract a lot of hate.

Apart from being better at writing English than speaking it, I'm completely the same person everywhere. I've been told that I could be a bit nicer IRL by people that've only known me for a very short time. They either get to know me better or stay away.

To be honest I only really post on here and one smaller forum these days, and I'm probably fairly similar on both. Here I'm probably less funny and maybe a bit less of a dick, because I don't know people as well here and I moderate on the other one, so I feel a bit more confident and comfortable there. I guess I should try and be more like that here, but the chances for amusing exchanges are fewer, so it's difficult.

I think I have posted on 3 forums ever... here, my old Guild in WoW, and the Blizzard WoW forum's (only in response to someone posting about something I did on it and me being told about it by a forum lurker).

On here, I am a bit reserved. I tend to delete A LOT of what I type: partial ban-hammer, part lurker in the weeds, part I normally post when drinking, part non-confrontational (even on line) and part other things.

On my guild forums... yea post anything and everything. I knew everyone there and if something I posted pissed them off... they would get over it or die mad, one way or another we had a raid in X many of days and personal opinion of me didn't matter (hopefully).

As for Blizzard forum, it was a few posts about my pure awesomeness (LOL) and too limited to really draw reference from.

As for name and persona: Drakane (or a derivative there of)has been my gamer tag/sign in name/call sign for better part of 20 years (was quite surprised to get it here). For the past almost 10 years any female toon I have is named Sciezka (the path).

I do conduct myself the same across the board, as far as the internet goes. In real life I just lurk in the background and say nothing unless addressed. It often annoys people because I noticed something or remembered something that no one else did, but didn't say anything and got them screwed over because of it.
