i started noticing this when i saw this video (not going to embed it because you don't need to watch it, just read the comments to know what i'm talking about)

harmless video directed at christian families. yet look at all the hate spewed in the comments and just in the "Likes vs Dislikes" with over 1300 people disliking the video and little more than 200 liking it.
Obviously this video was professionally made to make christian families feel happy. It's not like this is some WBC "Protesting Little Girl's Funeral" shit, so why all the hate? The video was not made for them. At all. They made it with the intention of putting smiles on people's faces and everyone who didn't like it could just go about their lives and ignore it. Then it gets on the internet and people rip it to shreds as "Christian Propaganda" that "indoctrinates" the kids.
This doesn't even end at youtube, it seems like almost everywhere else on the internet is like this. Nothing wrong with it being populated by atheists, but it's always the stupid, whiny bitchy ones that i see... Maybe it's just a case of that whole "very vocal minority" that just spends all its time criticizing versus the "silent majority" that keeps buying millions of copies of Call of Duty Black Ops and seeing Transformers movies enough for them to generate profits almost in the billion range (both franchises are kind of the same quality in my mind, but I don't care. doesn't affect me).
My disappointment at these idiots for raging about something that wasn't even made for them and doesn't have even enough public recognition to indoctrinate any child whose parents want to protect them from "evil christianity" or just "evil religion" is at face-palmingly high levels.
Now i'm not a christian myself, i stopped after i realized just how futile trying to live by those puritanical standards was when all my instincts pointed me AWAY from what they were teaching me. Plus they complained about all sorts of petty things that just pissed me off to no end....
seems like every group (even atheists) are just a bunch of bitches that don't know when to shut up and just live and let live.
anyways, comments?
EDIT: I'm in no way making a disingenuous assertion about atheists, i'm just frustrated by vocal minorities (the idiots OF the atheists) and how fucking vocal and idiotic they can get once anonymity comes into the equation (such is the case with that harmless video i mentioned). I know atheists are not idiots. There are just as many jack-asses in every sect of beliefs everywhere (WBC, Taliban).
not to be a contrarian... but that means we shouldn't live by the rules ofRem45 said:Azaraxzealot said:It seems that most people on the internet that I encounter love to spew their hatred of christianity and pretty much every other form of organized religion.

I watched the video and it is propaganda. He clearly states that being a christian is better. I was a catholic from my christening till high school when I realised it is all false. This Priest is telling people that if you aren't a christian you can't be happy? I'm happier knowing that my life is my own and not part of some plan of a being that no one has seen. Also, Jesus was a partying drunkard. Thats all he did. The birth stories are false. The bible is not something to live by because it preaches racism and homophobia.
Actually thats something that I feel most people get wrong. Being a Christian isn't about being perfect, it's about being imperfect. No one can live up to being like Christ, thats impossible (otherwise why would we need him) but the idea is that you are imperfect and strive to do better. People get too caught up on sins and forget that the whole being a Christian thing is FORGIVING those sins. But then again, I haven't been to church in two years and I never read my Bible. I'm probably not the best person to give advice on being a Christian, lol.Azaraxzealot said:Now i'm not a christian myself, i stopped after i realized just how futile trying to live by those puritanical standards was when all my instincts pointed me AWAY from what they were teaching me. Couple of things:Tipsy Giant said:OK, I read it all....y1fella said:Please I wrote all this. take the time to read this.
bare with me here but my main proof for the existence of god is the existence of Jesus. This is proven in.
A) Roman records meticulously kept and replicated undeniably claim that a Jew named Jesus was executed for rebellion against the roman empire while another prisoner named (I hope I spell this right) Barabus was released form execution (Just the way it goes in the bible) and Jesus was executed in his place.
B) The four gospels in the bible can all be traced to their origin (that's the reason they were put in the bible) at the hands of the men that rote them that were all witnesses to the events that happened to Jesus.
C) The five hundred people who witnessed Jesus resurrection all continued to spread there beliefs despite persecution and exile despite all reasons to the contrary.
D) Roman centurions who were recorded in the bible were all recorded in roman records of soldiers.
E) Thousands of different gospels and "First hand accounts" (many of which are fake) all record very much the same thing about Jesus. And while many of these are fake the sheer number of them all from roughly the same period as each other points towards the existence of Jesus.
Okay Jesus aside for a second On the proof of god alone I only have one point that comes to mind:
A man named Saul who was a pharisee and murderer of Christians on the prompting of a voice from heaven changed his beliefs to following Christianity despite his luxurious life style being taken from him. despite being persecuted where ever he went and eventually dying of execution he continued to preach about Jesus until he died.
another thing is that every single book in the New testament of the Bible can be traced to their origin and all point to the existence of god.
I could continue for ages but here is my final point:
D.N.A is the single mos complicated thing in existence. If you were to write about a single strand of D.N.A. the amount of books you would have to write to actually record the D.N.A would be a stack of books that goes to the moon and back..... FIVE TIMES. Evolution would have me believe that this ridiculous complexity formed spontaneously by chance. Have you ever seen someone throw all the items needed to make a house in one place and all the pieces land in such a way that they form a house. Well for D.N.A. to form like that would be that house example happening thousands upon thousands of times..... In the same place.
Look I'm not your typical christian in that i can say all that off the top of my head. So let me blow your mind when I say I found it a bigger leap of faith to believe Atheism than I found it to believe Christianity. For me to become a christian was not a leap of faith but a logical process.
I also believe christian morals and beliefs adequately explain all arguments like "If god exists why is there suffering" or "Why isn't there one unifying religion".
Here is a serious suggestion. no actually make that two.
One: read the bible. It can change your life.
two: If you really need evidence in the existent of god go to creation ministries which is a website (and magazine) run by a group of christian PHD scientists that spend all day and all night arguing for the existence of god.
Please I wrote all this take the time to read it.
It's all bullshit, regardless of whether there was a man named jesus, whether he stood up for the poor... it doesn't matter, because there are still fuck all facts that he was more than a human, everything is hearsay and that is as far from scientific fact as possible.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love LOVE it if there was a being which would hold humans accountable for their moral choices upon death and grant us entry into heaven, but there isn't, it's an age old misquote from man.
If we were to all act with morals in mind for every decision, we could turn our world into heaven, but instead we are fighting each other over fake gods and people like you have the audacity to say to those of us clocked into the problem that you have facts? I shit on your facts SIR!
OK, number one, does it matter?y1fella said:Couple of things:

Two if you want to have a discussion keep it civil. All this swearing and name calling does you no credit.
three: I did mention the fact that people saw him die then three days later saw him alive (despite having been buried for three days) all the people told the same story and were willing to die for that story despite having nothing to gain. That's not conjecture and hearsay.
Four: You use one blanket statements for all my arguments. If you were to dispute them individually I could respect that. But instead I can sum you up here:
The things you say are stupid. I blame you for the world being shit. If you were all like me there wouldn't be any problems.
Seriously take the time to create a proper respectable response.
Also sorry if it took me a while to respond but haven't been online in a few days.
Also again. "I shit on your facts sir"..... I don;t understand are my facts inferior to yours? Does that statement mean anything or were you just trying to make me angry?
Hi. me again. I'll get to your argument later and we can have a discussion then but I'm busy right now. Sorry..... I'll probably be busy till Monday so just don't empty your mailbox. If you want to hold this discussion fine we'll do it later if not then say so and come Monday I'll know either way.Tipsy Giant said:OK, number one, does it matter?y1fella said:Couple of things:

Two, I must admit I do get worked up when people do ....
Three, Please don't use the word FACT when it is not connected to a ACTUAL FACT, this is what makes science more reliable than faith, people simply saying they saw something doesn't mean it's true, if 50 people told you they were abducted by aliens, is that now a fact?
Four, I used a blanket statement as I believe the same problem occurs with all your statements, you believe that the word fact relates to something that can't be proven otherwise, whereas FACT is when it is proven.
The things you say are not accurate. I blame the world being shit somewhat on religious people who shun science. If the world were less easily fooled there would be less problems.
by I SHIT on your FACTS I was referencing your use of the word fact being inaccurate and therefor infuriating to a man of science.
Look I get this all the time, religious people claiming that I think "If you were all like me there wouldn't be any problems. " when in actuality it's religious people who match that statement, trying to convert people to their mindless cause.
LOOK I have no problem discussing the idea of a creator and I have no problem with people living by a moral code (I think jesus is a great role model, helping the poor and sick without thought for himself) what I have a problem with is people telling me they know the answer to the biggest question in the universe when no one on earth does, when stephan hawking tells me that jesus was superman and his dad is the creator of all things, i'll buckle, but when it's believed by a tiny minority of scientists i'll keep calling it BULLSHIT
It isn't harmless though. People aren't hating it because they're anti-religion, they're hating it because it's a bad video. Using metaphors and irrelevant science experiments to try and trick impressionable children into following a religion is in my opinion highly immoral. There are ways to teach religion properly and ethically, but this isn't one of them.Azaraxzealot said:harmless video directed at christian families. yet look at all the hate spewed in the comments and just in the "Likes vs Dislikes" with over 1300 people disliking the video and little more than 200 liking it.
Let's pretend for an instance that Christianity never existed. Then one day someone started saying that they believed in a creation story similar to that found in the bible, or that there was a great flood, or that if you have faith you can drink all manner of poisons and live. That person would be seen as crazy and very likely could be locked away in a mental institute. Having people make fun of them online should be the least of their concerns.Azaraxzealot said:seems like every group (even atheists) are just a bunch of bitches that don't know when to shut up and just live and let live.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all fine and dandy till you start murdering Jews.omicron1 said:Back to transubstantiation: There's something very simple yet overlooked here... and it is simply this. That if the Catholic viewpoint is correct, that bread and wine could literally become Jesus' body and blood in the mouth. Like it or not, the presence of God changes things' possibility. If there is no god, then none of these things could have happened. But if there is a God, then any and all of them could have happened. Simple.
No. It looks stupid/ignorant because it is. If a Catholic priest could bless a cracker and turn it into the flesh of Jesus Christ, and then someone could curse it, stab it, and make it bleed, they could split $1 million from James Randi. They can't do it, because it's bullshit.omicron1 said:I (like most protestants) don't personally believe this to be the case, but it's another case of something only looking stupid/ignorant to an outsider.
And if something require "true faith" to make sense, it's a sign you are in a cult.omicron1 said:Because let's face it, when the discussion leaves the realm of physics and enters the realm of the supernatural, things don't necessarily have to make sense according to the laws of physics.
There's a difference between being wrong, being really wrong, and being "I can't believe you just said that!" wrong.CosmicCommander said:To say you think a person is wrong is one thing; to say they "have nothing but contempt" them, or to say that they are an "idiot"- or they "disgust me" is completely inexcusable.
