Israel developing laser based interceptor

Apparently NBCnews reported yesterday that the Israeli Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. is planning a laser based ground to air rocket interception units named "Iron Beam".

I might be ill-informed but I don't know of any other laser weapon to date, so this seems pretty huge to me.

I can't be the only one to have his mind blown thinking we're going to get our pew-pew lasers soon, right?

Well, the pew-pew would exist in the form of probably a piece of equipment at the very smallest the size of a fridge and with the sensitivity of a glass case full of cakes, and the lasers themselves would be invisible and silent.

This has already been done by the U.S. Navy early last year and already deployed on a ship. So you can imagine that it was in development way before that time. The USN and DARPA have so many things in development it scary, including rail guns.
