It doesn't matter HOW you achieve something in a game.

As long as you manage to achieve whatever you wanted to do, how you did it doesn't matter.

For example, when playing Halo 3 Legendary co-op, I just stood behind and acted as the spawn guy, while my friend ran ahead and fought. I got the legendary achievment afterwards, even though I did hardly any work.

I got my first Perfection yesterday, during a game where the enemy team had one AFK guy, one of them left, and the other guys sucked. And the majority of the game I was hiding on ramps and around corners with active camo.

Another example is when I was playing the final boss battle in [PROTOTYPE], I just hijacked a helicopter, hovered above the ship, and spammed missiles at him.

So it doesn't matter HOW you get something. As long as you actually get it.

Sure, to "some" people it doesnt matter how you do it as long shit gets done.

I remember how a friend of mine was soooo proud for defeating Black Anima in FFX. So I asked him how he did it because Anima kept raping me mercylessly.
He looks at me, shrugged and says "I called Yojimbo and he killed her with his instant."

Thats a moment when I just go "Wtf?" mode. Defeating a Black Aeon using Yojimbo.. thats bordering hard cheating if you ask me, and takes away the purpose of of optional bosses.

Depends, being lazy about how you achieve something is all fine and dandy but doing it with some grit and creativity that's what makes it all worth while.

For example in Battlefield Bad Company 2 there's a glitch where you can put AT mines and C4 under an ATV to catapult it across the map, a technique me and my mate were experts at executing.
It's always funny on Rush game types to see an ATV go flying over the level to land then have the 2 guys on it AT mine and C4 the points to instant kill em instead of planting the bomb. =D

I like to figure out different ways to achieving shit. Like in that bank robbery mission in GTA IV, I was in the truck, I hit a corner and it glitched and flew away and landed on the objective point.

Win.
That's the point I'm trying to make, it doesn't matter HOW you get there, as long as you DO get there!

Nah.

It depends on the game, but I often like to achieve my objectives with a bit of style.

For example, in stealth games I will often reload if I get spotted, even if I can easily escape.

Well however you want to play your games is up to you. Personally I won't fake my way to an achievement/medal because I know I won't have earned it fairly.

There's an achievement in Halo:Reach for earning 1,000,000 points in Firefight. Now if I wanted to I could start a Firefight game with 'infinite ammo' and 'invincibility' enabled and get that total in 20 minutes, but what would be the point? Where's the satisfaction in claiming something I haven't earned and therefore don't deserve?

I do that too.

In most cases I would disagree completely, but when it comes to gaming achievements I think they are sufficiently unimportant that it doesn't matter one way or the other. You may be cheating yourself out the intended experience, and I imagine if you put a lot of effort into obtaining those they'd probably mean more . . . but again, gaming achievements, it's not like they're important to begin with.

You get as much out your "achievement" as you want to get out of it. If it fills you with joy that you beat a game by doing nothing or close to nothing, well good for you Mr.Iameasilyentertained.

I doubt other people will really be that impressed by your "achievement", at least when you explain how you did it. But hey... fuck them, what do they know? They like playing their games.

I agree with OP. I always get yelled at for knifing in MW2. Does it matter that I find killing everyone by stabbing them in the back fun?

I'd take it a step further and say your achievements in a game don't matter. Period. They're just shiny badges to make you feel nice.

Bullox! That´s like saying someone hacked themselves up to max level on WoW and it´s just as fine as someone who did it the legit way.

Of course, your examples only touch on achievements but the title covers this in.

Which is exactly why they matter.
Feelings nice matters.
If that doesn't matter I don't know what does.

OT: I have to agree, if you somehow outsmart the game, all the more win for you.
Outright using cheatcodes is different though.

There are plenty of bosses in the Final Fantasy series that are immune to Death spells and effects. If they didn't want Yojimbo to be an option for the Dark Aeons, they really should have made them immune.

That said, Final Fantasy bosses are rarely a matter of strategy, and beating them usually just requires some key technique or enough level-grinding.

So you're saying that you would Kidnap a girl, Rape her multipule times until she is impregnated, then tie her up in a basement feeding her dog food until she gave birth to your child?

By your words: it doesn't matter HOW you get a child, as long as you actually get it...

hmm, I guess "matter" is a bit of a vague term. I mean, they're really nothing to be proud of, or to bother thinking about. It's like the smiley face stickers grade school teachers hand out...to everyone in the class.
