So, today is a great day, it seems that Sonic is returning to his 2D roots, will it be any good? Well it can't be any worse... can it?

So, do you, fellow escapist, believe that Sonic can once again prove himself a platforming god?

Kudos for the franchise returning to it's roots, but it's my belief that there comes a time when certain IP's just need to take that trip to the retirement home.

yes.

The daytime levels, and only the daytime levels, were actually decent in Unleashed.

He can do it...just hand the reigns to Dimps and keep Sonic Team far away.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimps

They made the great Sonic Rush games on DS, which were 2D.
And Sonic Advance. And DBZ: Budokai 1 and 2. They also co-developed Street Fighter 4.

And did the DAYTIME stages for Unleashed. For the Wii version, but that actually is generally regarded as superior to the 360/PS3 versions.

I know what you mean, but hopefully, because this is a downloadable title, rather than an actual hard copy of a game, it will be different.

Well, I had a lot of fun with Sonic Heroes at the time and I even enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog; the last two games, however, were a flop in my opinion...
This certainly looks like a return to Sonic's roots, which I am excited and sceptical about at the same time. Gameplay-wise the old games were simply unique, but I also usually got my ass kicked only a few levels in because my reaction time was never good enough to keep Sonic alive through the more elaborate traps and arrangements of enemies.

I've been meaning to get a Sonic game. Why exactly do people hate the 3D versions?

You're joking right? I'm gonna pretend you're joking, because if I didn't I think my mind would implode.

Considering I've never gotten a Sonic game before, I have no idea why people hate them so much. I'm guessing... the neon woodland creatures?

Ha, this looks to be a hopeful prospect for sonic. Lets hope Sega don't mess it up.

More like a bad camera, Sonic's "friends", and cheap deaths.

I had some hopes for this game initially, even though I'm not exactly the biggest sonic fan, but it seems to honestly fallowing the Sonic cycle. I forgo which news post it was, but one of them really squashed my hopes.

I remember what Konami did to Rocket Knight adventures, I hope Sonic doesn't go through the same, though having a 2D platform would be refreshing for once...

Yeah that would be cool, however I'm really damn confident that they'll manage to fuck it up like usual *sigh*.

You need a combination of clairvoyance, catlike reflexes, and an extremely forgiving controller to make it through a 3d level filled with bottomless pits and spikes while running at breakneck speeds.

For most gamers... this is frustrating.

You know, I think I'm gonna take Yahtzee's "Guantanamo Bay Approach" to this game, and just assume that Sonic Team are going to find a way to completely and utterly screw it up.

It's much better than the times I've thought they've brought Sonic back to his former glory, then gone "LOL THERE'S A NEW HEDGEHOG GUYZ AND HE HAS PSYCHIC POWERS!"
