It shouldn't be this hard to find cigars...

This is mostly just a rant, subtly (sort of...) infused with a pleading request.

I'm an occasional smoker. I've never had a problem getting cigarettes, at all. The damn things are sold everywhere that sells anything. Either that or I can just mooch them off of my friends when need be.

But I've never been able to find cigars anywhere. And if I can find em, they're not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Never found anywhere that sells them physically, and online places that I've found charge around £30 for a pack of 5 of the damn things.

I've never actually smoked a cigar before, but I've always wanted to try one. Apparently they're more "pleasurable" to smoke than plain cigarettes, so I wanna give it a shot but the lack of availability in immediate over-the-counter form is weird and baffling.

I mean, it shouldn't be this difficult to locate your finer smokables. It makes no sense...

What I'm asking with this, kind of, is if any of the UK Escapists smoke cigars, and if so how do you manage to get your hands on them?

I'm not sure about the state of it in the UK, but in the US, you can get cigars at tobacco stores, which are surprisingly common.

I don't smoke cigars, but there are about a dozen cigar shops in my area, one just down the street. Use to frequent them before Obama outlawed clove cigarettes. Now I have no reason.

I have seen some affordable cigars, but I can only imagine how bad they probably taste. The ones I would smoke are not cheap, which is why I don't smoke them. If I'm going to invest that much money in a bad habit, think I'd rather take up pipe smoking that way I could create my own mixture.

You used to be able to find the cheap nasty ones in regular shops, but I'm not sure they'll be much better than cigarettes. Same problem with good pipe tobacco - if you're lucky enough to live somewhere near a specialist shop, great.

Tobacconists seem to be dying out, but there are still a few around. There were two really good ones in Edinburgh I used to go to when I lived there.

You should try a Tobacconist, also I think Asda may sell them... I seem to remember that the tobacco counter of my local Asda (where I used to live) sold cigars... however it may be a "supply and demand" type of thing, so if there's not a lot of demand then they may not stock them.

Large supermarkets do seem to have a better selection of tobacco products than newsagents (depending on the location, ones closer to estates and cheap housing are better), plus Off-Licenses usually sell cigars, but if you're still having difficulty you could try asking in a pub or a gentleman's club... I'm sure most towns have places that sell cigars, but you may have to ask a cigar smokers.

It also helps to know a few cigar brands so you know what you're asking for. If a non-smoker is serving behind the counter they may only know the names or products, rather than what type of tobacco it is.

However, I don't actually smoke cigars, so I can't advise you on what's a good brand to ask for.

when did this happen? i bought a pack yesterday.
Sept. 2009. Illegal to sell, illegal to smoke. Can't even buy out of country; get siezed by customs. No real clue why. Have heard everything from they support terrorism to he just feels they're too unhealthy.

edit: doing a little research, seems they were banned along with all other flavored cigarettes except menthol, which is mainly US produced. Fighting underage smoking by banning all the flavored cigarettes except for the ones that said underage smokers are smoking, menthol. Makes sense to me. Oh wait...
