Haven't read it yet but did you hear Frank Darabont, director of The Shawshank Redemption (best film ever, by the way) is adapting it into a movie? Check it out www.imdb.com/title/tt0360556/

I was given this book back when I was 17 or something. Still haven't read it. Might have to after the review though. It's peaked my interest.

I actually just started reading this a couple weeks ago since I never got the chance to back in High School.

To be honest I did not read your review just in case it contains spoilers, but so far the book is pretty good.

a good review, although I have to admit the thread title honestly made me think you burned the book.
Same here.
I'll admit that while I completely agree with the message the book gives, I didn't actually enjoy the reading of it.
I think it has to do with the fact that most of the dialog in the book is worthless chatter, understandably so, as it's to demonstrate how shallow their society is, but dialog is often my favourite part.
...Anyway, sorry about that. I thought it was well-written, pretty well-thought out, though you made a few minor typos.
A fair point that I'd never really noticed before. I really enjoyed that book though: it chilled me to the core, being a hardcore book worm when I'm not busy gaming.

To the OP: A good review! Keep 'em coming.

I loved this book, it the only book that they make you read in school thats actually good.

i totally agree. everything else ive been made to read in school is total crap and i usually stop reading them after 3 chapters. thank god for spark notes. but yeah this book was amazing. its kind of scary how much it actually relates to life today. my freshman english teacher played jack johnson's brushfire fairytales for us when we were reading this book and it shocked me how much it was just like the book. it hit pretty much every point on society that the book did. its an excellent song too. if you've never broken down the lyrics or thought about it in corrilation with the book i suggest to do so. it truly is fascinating.

I did not liked your review, I found that you reveal too much of the story to get people interested in the book, perhaps taking out the "extracts" and just plain telling why you liked some parts, I don't know, may be that your stile of writing just does not appeal to me... I kind of like to write the things as I feel them and tend not to approach the subject so straightforward, it seems you are a "preview" of a movie that just shows the best parts (telling away the whole movie)

but it is still a good thing to read, I liked your opinion.

What other books did you read?

Lord of the flies - Was a good book but failed to capture me like 451 did

To Kill a Mockingbird - No offense but that book kinda sucked, the only reason it became so popular is because its written so well. The book didnt have me thinking like 451 did

Red badge of courage - I got 50 pages into itand thought I would kill myself

Pretty meh for me, I guess dystopian lit isn't for me, then again I had to read this in school last year, with the dumb class. So of course it wouldn't be very enjoyable.
Most characters came down to being archetypes if you ask me. I didn't get enough closure out of the ending. Clarisse was probably the best character and
they kill her off early on.

Great Review though but I don't remember the bomd part in the begining
That is because it did not happen.
his wife overdosed on sleeping pills (or something like that)so they had to use that blood machine thing, not a bomb.

I hated this book! It was an endless drudgery and was plain boring. Yes, it did have some important social analysis in it but, frankly, I don't really care. I can never picture the world we live in descending into the messed up universe of Ray Bradbury.

This book is fantastic. A superb analysis of the dangers of extreme political and religious thought. I read it my senior year in high school, and now, i think i'll go pick it up to re read :).
