Basically the point of this thread is to ask, what movies/TV shows/games/books have you watched/played/read that you loved up until one particular point that either completely ruined the movie or just lessened your opinion of it a bit?

What got me thinking of this specifically was the anime Death Note and its ending. I personally love Death Note. It's one of my favorite manga. Yet, the ending really (in my opinion of course) brought down the feel of the entire series.

What pissed me off most of the last volume of Death Note was
the entire last bit in which Light and Near are revealed to be outsmarting one another during the final chapters. Specifically, I mean when it is revealed that Near switched Death Notes from Teru and gave him a fake one which means no one will die if he writes their names in it.

Light's thoughts at the time are shown and when he realizes what's happened, he exclaims to himself "Exactly as I planned it!!"

How exactly? How can someone plan that far ahead in the future and perfectly predict another's actions of whom he knows nearly nothing about? It was a bit too far fetched for me and for some reason, I didn't think Near doing the same was hardly as contrived as Light's seemed to be.

But overall, the last volume left me somewhat disappointed and actually lessened my opinion of the anime/manga despite me loving every volume before.

So Escapist, has this ever happened to you?

Shutter Island. Do I even need to say why?

I think it's gonna be that ONE movie whose fuckin' stupid twist will haunt me for the rest of my life.

The Wheel of Time- Books 6-10 RJ couldn't see the sunlight due to the fact he so far up his own characters asses. Thankfully he relieved this for 11-12.

Lord of the Rings (both)- It was great until I realised Gandalf should have used those damn eagles he made friends with in The Hobbit.

Star Wars- Need I say more?

Heroes

Was good until the end of the first season, which ended in an unbelievably anti-climactic way, and then absolutely NOTHING happened in season 2.

I dunno, I really liked that twist. It's pretty easy to predict, but I thought it gave the movie some character.

Sex... untill i got crabs

When your mind is blank of anything smart to say, a more or less perverted joke is always the best solution.

I'll agree with Death Note for this, but for me, it was only great until the half way point.

Why keep going after something like that? Why ruin what could have been a near perfect series, which would have had a great ending if it ended right there? It felt like nothing but, "Now for my ultimate challenge. Outsmarting children!"

Everything after the death of L was almost completely pointless to me, and made me hate it.

This seems to be a really popular realisation. But nobody seems to remember the gigantic, fiery eye of Sauron that would stare at them and eventually subject them to an endless blizzard of wraith lords.

Psychonauts was incredible until A. The family sub-plot was way too predictable at the end, and B. THE MEAT CIRCUS WAS GRRROOOOOSSSSSSSSS! As in, level design has never made me taste bile before.

Yathzee had it spot on with Condemned 2. At the moment you gain your super powers you not only get that, but the fantastic and suspenseful melee combat is also traded in for a lot more gunfights.

Granted, the gun fighting is good in Condemned 2, but it's not the reason I play Condemned!

And while I'm a HUGE Battlestar Galactica fanboy, I have to admit that the last season was...wonky. From the episode Crossroads and on it became very mystical and magical. Luckily there was still the great character development I love it for in the first place, but it's still not up to standards to the rest of the series. And frankly, the actual ending was pretty weaksauce.

The Force Unleashed.

I had JUST played as Darth Vader. I watch a cutscene of him kidnapping a kid...I can live with that.
Another cutscene showing a robot sidekick...Old Cliche but it can't get worse.
Longer into the cutscene, the apprentice is partnered up with a pair of boobs, and apparently he shows off with snarky humor and Nathan Drake like attitude...I turned off the console.

So I loved the game until 15 minutes in.
