"Final Fantasy; Crystal Chronicles; The Crystal bearers" is my go to example for this. It was a VERY fun game...but it was missing so much...

It would have been SO nice to have the following:
-More powers than just "lift and throw" and the occasional power that enemies could use. The Hero has gravity powers, show some imagination! They could have given us stuff like a Charged burst that send enemies flying team rocket style. A pull-then-melee move (why can the hero only melee in cutscenes?!). Giant damaging gravity spheres. The ability to fire weak long range projectiles. Stuff like that. But noooo, it's pretty much lift and throw the whole way and while you CAN do some cool stuff with the way enemies interact with each other and your powers....It still feels too similar.

- A fast travel mechanic that didn't suck. The game is essentially a sandbox game. Your 3 options to get places (aside from walking) are:
*chocobos. But you can only get them in specific places. Plus, you cannot open chests while on them. And if you dismount to open the chest, the chocobo vanishes. >_<
*A train that goes between certain areas. Doesn't cover enough places. Some areas are FAR from any train station.
*A warp network you get later in the game. But you have to FIND the entry points in the world (often well hidden) in order to access the warp hub, and you can ONLY find and use them when the area is peaceful. which brings me to my next point.

- Make it so that you can CONTROL when areas go into "peaceful mode" and "monster fight mode". I realize they did that so it feel like the world IS in trouble, and so we could not grind the same fights for materials, but still...Sometimes I just want to explore an area in peace, or so some shopping, but then the monster portal opens up and now I need to either kill them all or wait 5-7 minutes for the portal to auto-close so I can get back to checking out the area! That and when I'm hunting for a rare material, I HATE having to wait in the same damn area for 5-7 minutes waiting for the monster that drops it to respawn! >_<

- Make the game feel consistent, and/or add in a "wanted" meter or something! I mean, the hero is a wanted man on the run (which is kinda stupid on the villain's part), and yet the local guards don't even try to hunt you down or arrest you. Hell, even if you start causing havoc and mayhem with your gravity powers, the worst they'll do is ram into you and make you lose money. And then they either walk away, or just keep ramming you. At least make things interesting if I'm making trouble, and force me to run away and hide for a short while, or give me a constant fight for my life/freedom or something!

- Make the set pieces ACTUALLY feel important. There are two chase scenes that kinda fall flat if you actually stop to fight the monsters in your way (which you NEED to do to earn more health), and there was this super tense prison break scene that.....had 2 fights. You don't even need to sneak. There are NO guards to catch you, until you enter a room full of mechs, and then you do a kinda-boss-fight, and it's over. >_> Lame.

And remember, despite all these problem, I still really enjoyed the game! Imagine if they got all those things RIGHT? IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME! ;_;

Optional, yes. But I found that they were always juuuust out of reach for me. Like, most of them I could do on the first try, but some of them pissed me off to no end. You're doing a half-hour-long mission and you literally get RIGHT TO THE END and right at the last moment you're spotted and you fail the secondary objective or something.

NOTHING IN THE WORLD IS MORE FRUSTRATING THAN THAT

Especially when it was a result of a game flaw and not your own fault. Like "No, Ezio, I told you to run THAT way! Not THAT way!! No, stop running up the f*cking walls! Shoot the guy-- shoot-- shoo... GOD DAMMIT"

And the fact that dying or otherwise starting at a checkpoint doesn't reset your secondary objective status just makes it even worse. Especially when, like I said, the missions are like half an hour long or whatever. It's just frustrating. Yeah, you can choose to not do them, but to have it dangling in front of your face as a really easy task only to have it pulled away at the last second is just wrong.

Batman Arkham Asylum would have been so much better if they didn't "encourage" you to stay in detective mode permanently. It's a real shame though, the game is so much darker and better looking when you're not in detective mode.

If Swat4 had a shotguns that worked. We all know it to be true :p
The heck? Beanbag shotguns were the ONLY useful weapon in that game. Otherwise it's near impossible to have zero casualties.
I was talking about the 2 lethal shotguns. I wouldn't consider the beanbag a shotgun a shotgun, its more like the baton launcher or a bolt action rifle that fires beanbags and has a pump. Also its easy to have zero casualties if you follow the Rules of Engagement and are skilled with the gun.

Oh my god, I wish that had happened. And that last part, being respawned forever... Jesus, that's a horrible thought.

A lot of older games: Let me turn without stopping.

Dragon Age 2: Make some more dungeons, draw some more textures, release a toolset patch, christ.

Mass Effect 2: The T-1000. Just. Why.

.hack(PAL version): There is no point in making me round the game to unlock dual audio. You are just being a dick.

Bayonetta: That QTE was stupid, and so was that other one. I'm glad they dropped it after that, but why did it have to be there at all?

Just Cause 2: Some more variety. Maybe something to do other than missions, since everything boils down to "Go here, kill/destroy this." The game may be the best looking game on PC, and the controls are great. There could have been so many creative missions. But they decided to opt for generic instead. Plus, the dialogue and story are just terrible here, too.
This, pretty much. There's also the fact that you can only destroy structures marked with "DESTROY ME" paint, which kind of takes the fun out of destroying things in the first place. What makes this even more annoying is that there are so many buildings without it, leaving you with cities full of houses, towers and skyscrapers that can't be harmed in any way. That wouldn't be a problem in most other games, but in a game where the whole point is to blow stuff up it seems.. inadequate.

If Crysis hadn't completely abandoned the open gameplay of the first 2/3 of the game in favour of a succession of admittedly spectacular, but extremely linear set pieces for the final act.
I liked the setpieces, to be honest, it was the vehicle section that was brain-shatteringly annoying.

If you only shoot the people who shoot at you, you're technically not breaking any rules. Still, even then it's preferable that NOBODY dies, even if they aren't compliant.

Black Ops would've been so much better if the knife hit detection wasn't..not there..o.o; And if sniping was worth it. And if shotguns didn't have mood swings and not work like shotguns should in close-quarters.

Yeah I see where you are coming from, it's like a kick to the groin. If they were going to do that it seems like they should of put a 'restart at last checkpoint' option in and make it so if you died then the full sync was available again.

On that note, another way Brotherhood would be better is if the matchmaking FREAKING WORKED! A friend and I actually said "To hell with this lets play MW2" MW2 being the only other MP game we both have. It's kind of sad that your matchmaking sucks enough that MW2 is better. Frequently in the middle of searching for a game we will get split up and join different lobbies. Sometimes, right in the middle of a game you will get disconnected from host. And by sometimes I mean a few of times every few hours. It always disconnects on the best games too.
