Jeez, the PC fanboys swarmed on this thread.

This isn't a Mac supremacist wank, as many of you seem to think. I figured that this was a discussion. So non-Mac users, please circle-jerk somewhere else. Thank you.
You are on a gaming site. Due to the almost non-existent game release schedule for Macintosh more gamers own PCs. If you're going to make comparisons between Mac and PC you should expect a large contingency of those users to defend their choice.
Yeah, but there was no mention of PCs before someone decided to run into the thread and say 'PCs are better!'. That's what annoys me.

Anyway, being an owner of both, I would like to say that the PC is a cheap, effective and useful computer for digital graphics manipulation and gaming, but the Mac scores big points in the fact that it doesn't get viruses.

Not to mention that my Mac can start up reliably in 20 seconds, where my PC chugs. I need to get a new one. BADLY.

P.S. This thread has reached the point of no return, unfortunately. I foresee a lock in the recent future, no matter how peaceful the intention of this thread was meant to be.

EDIT: Actually, I read it wrong. He sorta said that he believed that the Mac was better, but does that really give us invitation to force our own opinions down his throat?

Apple disagrees with you:

http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/12/03/apples-virus-support-page-disappears-over-misunderstanding

I can't remember the last time I ever recommended (or was ever recommended) to use multiple antivirus programs on one machine :lulz:
How the hell do you manage to get a virus on a Mac? You must be looking up suspicious sites en masse! Anyways, I've never had any trouble with this thing.

I "think" MacBooks fit that well (not sure about emulators), but a healthy laptop will too. There probably is more to consider though such as cost and the possibility of other functions you may need your laptop to perform later.

And congratulations for having the only constructive post in this thread, actually asking something about Mac products rather then comparing wang size.
Thank you.

And thank you. :p
Macs CAN run most emulators. They generally cannot run downloaded games though, as most games are .exe files. But if you get Boot Kamp then its no problem.

Yeah but that's the case with ANY Playstation emulator (Mac or PC), Sony has been good at covering themselves on the emulator front.

Can Mac's play Crysis/Fallout 3/BioShock? Even Quake 2? Quake 4? If it couldn't play at least 3 of those, I don't know how much I'd want one, even free (unless I could sell it obviously). However, I'm biased, I just got a new top-of-the line gaming PC for the low price of 500 bucks, I'd type out the specs, but I'm too lazy to think right now, so I'll say this: Crysis (at something like 1200x1000 with 4xAA) on Highest with Vista. ***** :p

Honestly, I may be in the 1% here, but I've never had any problems with vista. Maybe a small bug here or there, but much better than XP or any other main-stream OS.

That's funny because I can easily ask how the hell do you manage to get a virus on a PC!

And Apple must clearly think it's a serious enough issue to devote support documentation to it.
It's as easy as getting RickRolled, and in the same way; dodgy links. Spyware and Malware are also huge and hard to avoid issues as well.

As for the second thing, doesn't Windows hand out support documentation as well?

EDIT: Now there's a PS3 fanboy to help with the derailment. I'm out of here.

But that's only true if you're someone who has no modicum of good judgment or tech literacy. Then again, we're talking about Mac OS X users...

Certainly, but Microsoft isn't the one spending hundreds of millions of dollars attacking Apple in countless television advertisements because of it.
WELL PS3 HAS BETTER GRAFFIX THEN PC LOL YOU PROB DON'T EVEN HAVE 3D

Well, we can't deny that Apple makes great computers. Most will even say they're better than PC (hell, I agree). So I figured that mac users deserved a Mac thread (even PC users should read up on Mac). So here it is the iThread dedicated to Mac chat.

I would also like to invite some pro Mac users to discuss on here and answer questions about Macs.

This isn't a statement, I mean it as an honest question to all Mac users...

Why did you buy a Mac as opposed to a PC?
Many reasons :

Performance. Macs are really performant computers and they always have been. Go to Apple.com and look up the Mac Pro, it's insane.
I have a question: What frame rates are you getting in Crysis, under what settings and what resolution with the Mac Pro?

I want a new laptop (god forbid I'll be able to afford one... but I digress...) and all of our previous computers have been fucked by viruses in the past. I want a laptop that has these features:

Very good at:
Internet surfing
Playing and downloading music and videos
Playing downloaded games (like SNES/Gameboy emulators and I Wanna Be The Guy)

Won't get viruses
And has an easy interface
Won't crash very often

Can Macs do all these? Help a gal out here.
Nope, and I'll be frank about viruses.

PEBKAC [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEBKAC]

On the issue with crashes:

PEBKAC [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEBKAC]

On the issue of Easy Interface:

And you already know PCs are great at all these three:

Internet surfing
Playing and downloading music and videos
Playing downloaded games (like SNES/Gameboy emulators and I Wanna Be The Guy)

Now for the issue of viruses and crashing, I recommend you install a "Stripped to the bone" edition of Windows. It's Windows without most of the extra drivers and useless crap. Basically it's the base windows with notepad, networking, and plug and play for mouse, keyboard, and monitor. The rest of the computer parts that require drivers all come with the drivers.

Format the drive, install windows, install motherboard drivers (important), install video and sound drivers, install Mouse/Keyboard and other peripherals. Failing to install motherboard drivers have caused issues and crashes before.

Get Firefox with No-Script. This is your first line of defense against viruses. Get a nice free anti-virus like AVG or AVAST!, these are two of the most popular ones. Head on over to www.majorgeeks.com and check out some of the freeware utilities. I personally love ProcessXP.
It replaces the default task manager.

99% of any crashes or errors are caused by PEBKAC or a bug(s) with 3rd party programs/games. The other 1% can be legitimately blamed on Microsoft.

Yes we can, quite easily.
Then do it. don't say you can.
Ok then I will.

I deny that Apple makes great computers.
Well that was even easier than I thought it would be.
Did i mention that most people who deny that Apple makes great computers are either ignorant, stupid or both? I think we have a good example of one of those people now. Thanks TheGhostOfSin.

Get some information, and make a counter-argument that makes sense. This thread was made for just that Discussion on Macs. You can defend them or say that they suck. but we want reasons.
OK I'll take the bait.
You can't generalize people as being stupid, arrogant, smart, black, white, tall or whatever else based on their PREFERANCE with computers. That is stupid, congratulations.

A lot of people don't like macs for a lot of reason, they are insanely expensive, cannot be upgraded (solder cpus to the motherboad=fail) and apple have fucking abysmal customer service (having dealt with them and been fucked over $400 worth of product I don't really care if you think different, my mind is made).

Some people may not like the OS, some people may not like the look, some people may not like the whole "casual/cool" computer user image associated with them.

Clearly you are both ignorant and stupid, so keep your rants from people who have their own opinions.

This is an unfounded generalisation with some flame on top.
For some reason I can't quite understand this just cracked me up. Seriously. I don't mean made me chuckle, I mean I had tears streaming down my face.

For some reason it made me think of a cake or something, with a little bit of fire instead of a cherry.
You're a strange lad. Strange awesome.
