I can't really contribute anything else, because all good characters and prominent figures were already mentioned. And i don't want to get on the bus of mass-murder with such brilliant people as Charlie the Clown from local McDonalds, a midget Italian plumber, The Amazing Accordeon Man, and Francis, who hates everything (Nazis included).

Gordon Freeman--Good all rounder, has experience fighting a Dictator.
Lillith (Borderlands)--Phase walk and a gun that shoots fire/electricity/crossive.
Batman--Enough said.
Kratos-- All-round Badassery and ultimate melee.
though w/ Kratos being a god...his replacement:
The Silver Surfer(comic book version, not movie)--Power Cosmic, the only power ever taken from a Superhero to be willingly given back because it made things too easy.
Lillith (Borderlands)--Phase walk and a gun that shoots fire/electricity/crossive.
