My opinion of the show is summed up in this review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.863238-Three-Episode-Rule-Cross-Ange-Tenshi-to-Ryu-no-Rando#21524723] but the third episode actually turned things around.

Much less dissonance, Ange has finally grown a spine, and we get our first cool fight. This show seems to have gotten past it's stumbling block and can be worth you time

I'll comment at length once I've actually seen the episode, but it's good to see that they didn't quite botch it. The first episodes were distinctively lacking subtlety and felt very rushed, after all.

So, I watched the third episode.

Oh boy. What a mess.

Graphics and animation were good as usual, voice acting on par with other productions for TV, nothing to whinge about really.

The story? Still feels rushed.

So we had two fight scenes (the continuation of the one from the previous episode and a second one at the end), and squeezed between them more Ange whining about herself (Really girl, you're stating at the fresh graves of your comrades and all you can talk about how you feel? Fuck you. No, seriously - just fuck you.) and some more characterisation of various characters and flashback scenes and suddenly a whole empire fell apart when nobody was looking (in what, weeks?) ... oh my.

And clearly they had to fire the Chekov's gun in this episode already. Why? The little macguffin could as well sit there until the end of the series and be just pulled out in the last episode - as a proof that Ange is the heir to the old Empire of Everybodyalreadyforgotitsname. It likely will serve in that role anyway. And that's before the annoyance of doing essentially a magic trick to get out of the tight spot when everybody else has to deal with being real-life humans with real-life limitations. Yes, yes, we know - Ange is special. The anime hammered that home quick bluntly last episode already. It didn't need to add another superpower on top of it, really.

The "ecchi" parts felt a bit out of place at times (the low angle view at Ange's bandaged crotch and underboobs was a bit much though, even for me), but at least didn't feel forced enough to distract from the story. On the other hand, fans of ... well, fanservice will likely feel underwhelmed since the scenes both go by blazingly fast (again, the whole thing feels rushed) and have so much else going on in them that you just have to pay attention to everything else.

6.2/10.0 so far from me (if the plot goes bonkers, will go lower), the anime will likely go for a 13-episode series and could seriously need double that.

it's a 25 episode show

I will say that it's better to have a rushed show with Ange being female Jesus Yamato and a slightly tasteless low angle shot than having two scenes of sexual assault with horrible framing. Honestly, the fact that the opening has two golden mechs firing tornados of energy at each other should have clued you in on the Deus Ex Machina ( Even Gundam 00's Trans Am wasn't abused this horribly).

Honestly, looks like the only really good Sunrise show is Gundam Build Fighters Try. Reconguesta no G has severe narrative problems now and feels like a bundle of plot points smashed together and Cross Ange has it's issues as I and others have stated time and time again.

Ultimately, Ange will grow more of a spine and actually be less whiny (she does not get the same excuse as Shinji since she doesn't have the same type of trauma as Shinji) but lets hope the plot doesn't go Valvrave stupid or the fanservice gets too much because I will cast this show into the 9th circle of hell and have it frozen, shattered and frozen again until the sodding end of time.

Sure? I mean, I've seen people on AniDB claim that as well, but really CBA to check. :D

If that's true, I understand the need to rush the first three episodes even less.

That's what I heard

Honestly, the writing is bad, lets just admit that and see what happens. If it goes horrible then I will comment as usual

They killed off Zola!! Goddammit she the only character that was getting interesting...openly and aggressively lesbian, sexually dominant, cybernetic eye, gorgeous hair, nice rack, wore hot pants everywhere.
I didn't give two shits when Coco died and would have cared equally less if Chris/Salia/Miranda went next. Already looks like one of those anime where side-characters get killed shortly after being introduced, but dammit why Zola? Who's going to help all those poor stressed girls relax and unwind during off-duty hours now?

Considering this show is so heavy on fanservice, killing off characters doesn't sit well with me because it means I won't get to see any more of them.

Grr grr minor gripes.

Also it was hilarious how Ange basically went full-emo and CRIED herself into gear. Haven't see that happen very often. Maybe in the next episode someone might even dare to ask the question "Hey Ange, you know that part where your trashed junk paramail got fully regenerated + upgraded by a magic ring that got activated by your blood? Mind explaining what the fuck?".

Not holding up hopes though, still pissed off about Zola dying -_-

I already made my thoughts on Zola clear, I find that the description of her being a caring leader when all I've seen is a raging lesbian that sexually assaulted someone, harasses her team sexually, and generally seemed very harsh to be a bit contradictory.

While I understand that the show is fanservice oriented, poorly executed dissonant writing is not a good sign in any show. As I've stated, quality writing and fanservice are not mutually exclusive. In other words, I don't care if you flash lesbian scenes every bloody episode, if your writing and characters are subpar I will condemn you for it.

Another 'gore porn' series that I'm skipping.

I don't 'get' the fetish of 'lol gore and sex' that some people have.

Bah!
