* * *

Warm greetings to you, fellow Escapists.

I hope you've all had a delightful holiday and still possess all of your squishy extremities. We didn't get much snow up here in the Jeralls this Christmas, unfortunately, though ice and rime were in great supply. No bandits, either, thankfully. We passed much of the time indoors around the fire, regaling one-another with tales of our adventuring days. I never would have believed an elf could take down a band of frost trolls single-handed, but...ah, well, I suppose you had to be there for the telling.

So, do you have any great and noble plans for your life? Is there anything you've never done that you want to do now, or are you someone who isn't really in the habit of making resolutions especially for the new year?

I need to get fit for the new year, so I'll be taking more walks in the woods. I think it's important to avoid spending a lot of January cooped up inside the house and becoming tired and stringy. I also like walking through forests a lot, for reasons I don't well understand. Maybe there's treasure buried there.

I've always thought that New Years Resolutions were really really dumb.

I mean, it's great that people want to better themselves; nothing wrong with that...

...why wait?

As to your question, I have been trying to get my fat ass in shape. I joined a gym early this year...and then promptly hurt myself a bunch of times so I have been unable to go as much as I want. These last two weeks I've really been able to get into the pattern I want (one + hours three days a week), although due to my knee injury, it's been strictly upper body strength. I start PT in January (insurance purposes otherwise I'd be doing it now) so I'm hoping to really get the jets cooking come February...

I'm looking to get a new job as well (I started that two months ago), although I would love to stay at my current company. The nice thing about looking for a job when you're not unhappy where you're at is that I get to be choosey with what I'm looking at for once in my life. I rejected a job offer sent my way because it wasn't a nice enough step up (I'm looking for either more money or more opportunity; hopefully both but I need one of those).

See Escapist! If you'd have started all this stuff like I did earlier, you could already be super sexy and super rich!

Fair enough; who doesn't like a well shapen fat ass? There is no need to answer that question.

You might want to have a look at some exercises from a book called 'Convict Conditioning'.

Good gravy, Tippy, you don't rest on your laurels!

You can have it back when I'm done with it. In the meantime, this may occupy you:

I want to get a job in the new year and move to Toronto. That's my goal at this point in life.

Also: I love Nina Simone but I really feel the Jon Cates remix was just the best version of Feeling Good... assuming the thread title was a reference to that song lol.

Not much of a resolutions kind of kid, but I've set some things in motion that are taking off quite nicely.

Schooling is coming along nicely, and I'm at the point at work where I'm just hanging on. Some other things have come my way and were pleasant surprises.

I'm just trying to get into shape and stop being so damn lazy when it comes to the gym, or just going out for a jog. My ankle has been becoming more of a nuisance, so I will probably get that taken care of this time. The last time I did PT it was a massive joke, and made my ankle worse. I will want to take care of that some time this year.

Other than those two things, I'm just gonna plan on doing every start of the new year and that's just to make it out in one piece.

I have very low expectations. :p

My two brothers are helping me out (one is a soccer player in college so he's got all the knowledge bestowed to him from the college trainer and the other brother has a degree in physical science to teach health/gym in high school). My soccer player brother is back from school for the month so he's been kicking my ass at the gym the last two weeks (and teaching me how to kick my own ass once he goes back). I appreciate the idea though since you don't always have a gym to go to...

Heck no! I can rest when I'm dead! :D

...also, I've spent the last twenty eight years resting on my laurels. It's time to stop that.

I'm not sure I'd call it a resolution exactly but I'm feeling this year is finally time to get started on that novel I've been wanting to write for years. I no longer have studying taking up half my time since I graduated, my job has a fair amount of free time in which to work on it and over the last few months my ideas have come together into an actual workable frame. Once my current projects come to an end, it'll be crunch time, may never get a better chance. Can't wait!

I'm just gonna call the thread title a stroke of intentional genius now. Also, I hear Toronto has some kickin' Chinese food!

Surely you can't mean you're still a student, so I guess you're a teacher?

Then you're already winning! Yes, by the way, it is a race.

Nah, I'm going back to school.

Furthering my career and options since I'm stuck where I am right now.

I don't have any resolutions specific to New Year's, but I do have things I want to achieve in the future.

My main target right now is to get into Graduate School so I can start a PhD. Man those applications are so much fun.

Graduating itself is also technically a goal. But I'm in a strong enough position from my previous three years that as long as I pass this year (and am therefore allowed to graduate) then I am guaranteed a 2:1,[footnote]And I only need a below-average 2:1 this year in order to get a First.[/footnote] so I'm not worried about that right now.

I have other things I want to do, but due to time constraints (a.k.a. the aforementioned degree and Grad School applications) I'm purposefully ignoring them until after graduation. The short version is: Get a fitness routine, start dating, try cross-dressing and consider rejoining the Red Guard. Note that that last one very much depends on how the first few months after graduation go.

Out out curiosity, what is your field of study?

On topic: I have no goals, simply to just continue studying for biology, and maybe learn coding.

Well, I'm not one for resolutions at New Years time. Generally if I find something about myself I don't like and want to change, I'll just go ahead and start working on it. I'm not so egotistical as to believe I can change on a whim. As we get older and are all creatures of habit in one form or another, changing our ways becomes a hell of a chore. Most people don't have the willpower to go all the way.

I've recently begun the process of quitting smoking, which is damn hard. Currently I'm weaning myself off of them, using those vapor thingies. I know its not necessarily better, but getting away from the original habit is more my goal than quitting outright. I'm weighing the option of temporarily quitting like I have multiple times in the past or replacing the habit with something less damaging (as far as I've been able to research) than cigs. Its definitely not easy but the e-cigs are making the transition easier. Maybe they will ultimately be easier to quit, that is at least what I'm shooting for. If not, well I'm hoping its less bad than the original habit and thats a plus.

Anyway, its great and all if people want to improve but my view is don't wait until January 1st to do something about it. Just set a goal. Most folks never follow through with resolutions on New Years anyway myself included.

I've got some big plans for next year. I'm moving out of my small 300-population village and into a nearby city. There I'll be attending university and hopefully also getting some work on the side (most likely at a bar, or some such). I'm obviously going to be working on building a social life for myself throughout this. Over the past few years my social anxiety has kept me rather imprisoned at home, but over 2014 I've been winning that battle and now feel confident enough to do this. So things are happening.

So, new year's "resolutions" I guess,

- Move to city
- Go to uni and get a job
- Build a social life/establish relationships
- Get laid.

Yup.

I need to go get an MBA. I'm hating my current job, and if anything I want to see what kind of education it takes to develop the backwards decision making abilities that the dumbasses in charge of me have.

Not really looking forward to more debt, but I'm just about paid off on my existing obligations.

Shorter term, quitting smoking (for the third time,) and getting back into running.

Well, I'd like to apply for a course relevant to my interests before any other SOBs can.

If that doesn't happen...I want to make some progress somewhere. Maybe get over a few problems I've been having...in general, and recently. Sometimes I wonder if I'm surrounding myself with bad company, or if that's just the way people are and that I should just toughen up and stick with it. Sometimes I really want to try cutting myself off from everyone for a couple weeks just to see how it feels.

Also, I was supposed to call the doctor's back about counselling if they didn't send me a letter or something...and they didn't. I wonder if it's too late.

Some work experience might be nice, too. Volunteering to work with animals might be cool. Might lead to something with pay. Maybe I'm romanticising it, but working with animals sounds rewarding for a person like me.

Aaaand get back into teaching myself animation. And once I get my drawing tablet, maybe get into my old hobby.

OT: New Years Resolution Number Infinity: Make a "News Years Resolution" for next year

Other than that, get a [new] job... and save money on car insurance...

<color=white>That last one is not technically a NYR since, plot-twist wise, I never have any to begin with...

My new years resolution, I've picked up drawing again and I promise to draw atleast 5 hours per week. Doesn't matter if it's pretty or anatomically correct, I've started drawing again and I wanna get better at it.
