Entirely possible. I've seen caves made from sand. Mine one ceiling block and the entire thing collapses.

Started up a new map in minecraft today and started to look for a place to build, than I found this:

It's obvious by your equipment bar that you've got a texture pack. Not to mention all the floating "sand" on the right side by the water.

It's probably re-textured dirt or clay or something like that.

I know, I'm no fun.

It's obviously a sign that you need to build an Ark. But be sure to make it big enough to hold two of every animal.
And remember: You get double the GodPoints if you can herd two Creepers.
