Yes the costumes are put up, the candy eaten, and dentist are filthy rich after filling all those cavities. This means the next holiday, no not thanksgiving. You know which one, thats rights it's almost CHRISTMAS (relatively speaking).

At the risk of sounding like a complete ponce, I love Christmas, as it is the one time of the freakin year I get to see my hillbilly hermit ass family. To hell with the presents bring the family, moonshine and deer steak

And since Christmas has always been a non-secular holiday in my opinion, and now a national non-secular holiday in America. I want to know what yule(heh pun) be doing Dec. 24 & 25.

Atheists, Buddhists, Catholics, Christians, Jews, Muslims, everyone, will you be drinking, dancing, singing, eating, giving, fucking, fighting, smoking, toking, choking, poking? In short what will you be doing to celebrate this wonderful winter solstice?

I shall be getting up as late as I can get away with, then attending a dinner with the family for as short a time as is humanly possible, then hurrying home to continue the online slaughter with everyone else who feels the same way about crimbo.

Seriously, to hell with christmas, its too fake and cheery now.

The one positive I can drag up for this year is that one of my good mates will be giving birth, supposedly around the 23rd-26th December, so that shall be quite interesting. Bets are already placed for a christmas day birth.

I will be visiting my little brother and sister for the first time in 2 years so that will be fun.

On the other end however I fall more into the Scrooge area and my father and his wife celebrate it somewhat huge so that will be fun.

You'll forgive me if I nitpick, but Scrooge becomes the greatest keeper of Christmas at the end of the story. Talk about holding a guy's past against him. He reformed; he became better than he was. Let's all cut Ebeneezer some slack.

To answer the original question, I plan on spending it quietly with my wife (and possibly her family). It promises to be a bit of a lean Christmas this year, but there'll be joy in my heart.

Looking forward to Christmas dinner.

That's about it really. I hate the obligation to give everyone presents, it just doesn't feel like people do it because they want to anymore. Also spending time with my family is fine, but a whole weekend outside of my comfort zone is horrible.

The word 'scrooge' has been appropriated to mean someone who is miserly, obviously as a result of Ebeneezer's personality at the beginning of A Christmas Carol. It's not me who gave it that meaning...it's been used that way ever since Charles Dickens wrote the story.

Personally, I've forgiven him lol. It's the English language and its persistent use of the word "scrooge" to refer to a miserly person who dislikes Christmas that hasn't bequeathed the man with forgiveness. It's a good word to use for a specific purpose and I'll continue to use it without a thought to the old man

Poor Ebeneezer.... Oh well

I love Christmas, too!

My Daughter will be 2years 8months at Christmas, and has a very good understanding that she'll get to rip open a metric fuck tonne of wrapping paper and have new toys! (Lots of MLP stuff, she loves it, feel proud, Bronies)

I've always enjoyed Christmas, I love seeing and being with family and I love stuffing my face with Turkey and Chocolate. And seeing my Mum and Dad's tree with literally a Fairy up liquid washing up bottle on the top of it as the Fairy.

Basic celebration I guess. Never really understood why holidays are such a big deal.

Maybe I'll understand when I'm older and barely have time to visit my family.

So basically this, minus the pregnant friend.

Always spend Christmas Eve with our parents, we get fast food (burgers), and open one present. Fast food is our tradition. I think we may sleep over again this year, then just spend a very lazy day at home for Christmas... we don't do family dinners anymore.

Am trying to convince my family this year to just give money or go shopping for presents during Boxing Week, so we get great deals. We don't spend much money on each other anymore, though.

Sleeping. But not in Canada. I'm going back to Israel for a great 2 weeks of seeing my grandparents. Thank God (atheist) for Christmas, because I get 2 weeks off school.

Ugh. Christmas? Bah, humbug!
Seriously though, I think Christmas is a rather useless holiday. Or well, most of them are really.

Just another excuse to get drunk and/or buy gifts for others because "it's a tradition".

Yes... life has made me cynical.

Your lack of holiday spirit makes me sad. :(

OT: For the last few years, we celebrated Christmas by visiting my older sister, my brother-in-law, and my nephews. I don't think that's going to happen this year. Ah well, as much as I love my nephews, I don't mind a little variety in the ways we celebrate Christmas.

I will be doing what I always do: heading home to see the folks. There will be good food (including the cinnamon rolls that have recently become my Christmas 'special move'), presents, and a 12-hour-long trip to Alabama to spend a few days with my grandparents and cousins.

I'm a fan of Christmas. I'm liking it even more now that I'm technically an adult. And who knows? There's a possibility that next Christmas, I'll be bringing a girl home to meet my big, happy, redneck family :D
