So you're talking about the perception of videogaming in the media? If so then yes, I can see some points that make sense but your OP doesn't really convey that-it comes out more that you think anyone who doesn't like WoW is just one of those 'Nazi Cheerleader conformists'.

That's possibly the most convincing argument I have yet head for playing D&Dsketch_zeppelin said:D&D used to be thought of as a gateway to devil worship and drug use
So if everyone accepts the notion of "think for yourself, question authority" are we all conformists? Or non-conformists? One thing is for sure, we are one paranoid freakin' society. Conformity is an illusion created in the mind to accomodate youth's natural need to rebel. Who is authority? Your peers? Your elders? The government? The world? You could take out the "question authority" part and the statement is more potent. That statement says "Think for yourself, here is a vague suggestion."ROBOcity123 said:Don't acknowledge conformity to not conform? I think Timothy Leary said it best when he said: "Think for yourself, question authority". The only true conformist are the people that accept everything for the way it is and never question it.
You better watch out man, or you are going to find yourself sitting in the break lounge of your job rambling of conspiracy theories when you are 30. You better be ready to throw Zynga on that list with Farmville. Their numbers are staggering. Blizzard is not responsible for what you are talking about. The Nintendo generation is. See we are in our 30s and many of us are parents ourselves. So is it really Blizzard who has parents willing to pay for a kid to make video games? Hell no. The causalities you are refering to have nothing to do with Blizzard directly. You just sound like NewWoWPlayer_120308 on a tangent about how much you like it. More power to you. However, you are the first I have seen to try and pass it off as edgy and fighting authority. I can't for the life of me figure out who you think authority is here.ROBOcity123 said:I support wow for the main reason that Blizzard are pioneers of a digital revolution. Blizzard have demonstrated the value of video games to the media, they have established wow as a potent form of income. I remember if you told your parents that you wanted to make video games they would laugh in your face and now I recently heard of parents even paying for someone to learn how to do it. Personally though I enjoy the game but it makes you stupid, fat and boring. The conformist in me will always feel that way, just like the old man tells me that rock and roll "will rot your brain".
Are video games destroying the minds of the youth? Or are we all so scared of change that we can't convince ourselves otherwise.
I have been playing wow for five years since before the release of BC. I started playing in the Nintendo era and I enjoyed games like 'Battletoads' and even played 'Pitfall' constantly on my Atari 8600. I don't just like games, they were my life. The authority part you mentioned comes from my Timothy Leary quote I never mentioned authority in my OP.Savagezion said:So if everyone accepts the notion of "think for yourself, question authority" are we all conformists? If you are truly a non-conformist, you won't base your opinions on what other people are doing. Yet, your whole thread here is dedicated to justifying your playing of WoW instead of going along with whoever it is you are looking at that is bashing WoW. If someone out there legitemitly likes WoW, Rock and Roll, Justin Beiber, and many other popular things are they conforming or being being themselves? Conformity is an self-imposed illusion, man. If you know how to know what you like, then you're good.

Now you've taken the metaphor the wrong way. At least, I think you have. Or you have, to me. If that makes sense.Savagezion said:You better watch out man, or you are going to find yourself sitting in the break lounge of your job rambling of conspiracy theories when you are 30. I'm stil trying to figure out what the topic is. Something about The Beatles and World of Warcraft? I think someone said something about D&D...ROBOcity123 said:Can we try to stick to the topic instead of calling me crazy and whatnot.
