Comparing a console to a handheld that's been out for a longer amount of time is silly. Let's also keep in mind that the Vita itself was seen as a useless handheld in the beginning, with only a select few titles worth playing.
As far as games are concerned, the Vita has psp and psone classics. The Wii U has both Wii U and Wii Virtual Consoles that allow downloads from over 4 past consoles/handhelds (NES, SNES, GBA, N64). Not too mention the Wii U has solid, quality first party games in Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Pikman 3, Wind Waker HD, and New Super Mario Bros U; all of which have had positive reception overall. The Wii U also has a decent selection indie games to choose from that aren't available on other consoles. Clearly the OP didn't do any research here.
To be honest, I completely forgot I even had a Vita for awhile. It wasn't until I switched apartments and found it while I was packing up my stuff. Even now, my Wii U sees more action than my Vita. Most of the indie games available are also on my PS3. I can play PSone classics on my PS3. Most of the PSP games I never had a chance to play, probably will never be made available on the Vita. Persona 4 Golden, Gravity Rush, Muramasa: Rebirth were all solid titles. Almost everything else, I can play on my PS3.
With all that being said, I don't think the Wii U will ever be a decent primary console, with the lack of third party support. That's what my Xbone is for. However, I buy nintendo consoles to play nintendo games, so no third party support isn't a deal breaker for me.
