I think it went the same place that the Arcade Escape games went. No, I'm not going to get over that.

This is a very good thing. March mayhem freaking sucks anyway honestly.

Why? Its always the same developers in the final four based on their history AND NOT FOR HOW THEY HAVE DONE THAT YEAR. Valve always wins (it would have won this year's again even though they did nothing. At least last MM, they made Portal 2...which apparently was enough to win MM AGAIN so whatever. The voting system last year was absolute bull crap, and all it did was create huge flame wars for something that meant so little. Not only that, but developers that actually cared about stupid MM made Facebook posts (including Valve of all people) to vote for them in MM, which turned the tide in votes completely. Like that year where Zynga almost won it all -_-.

I hope MM is never brought back again. It was a stupid idea then, and its a stupid idea now. Not really for it's concept, but because the voting people are always too stupid to realize (even though the rules for the voting where clear in black and white) that their supposed to vote for a developer based on their performance for THAT YEAR. But no, instead, its just a bunch of sheep going "IM VOTING FOR VALVE BECAUSE HALF-LIFE 2 and TF2 LULZ!". Just...ugh.
I'm pretty sure Valve only one twice, Its been;

Turbine
Turbine
Valve
Mojang
Valve

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Escapist_(magazine)#March_Mayhem:_Developer.27s_Showdown

Also there never was any voting rules, you can vote on what ever basis you want. Why would the description of the developers include their entire history, informing the people that Namco Bandi gets credit for Pac-Man. Besides most developers don't come out with more then one game a year, if they were going to do it based on only the past year they might as well just do it for games rather the developers. Calling people stupid for not following made up rules is a big part of the problem. Try not to get so uptight about things.

Oh yeah, I never noticed that. Oh well. I can live without it. MM always tends to slow this site to a crawl anyway.

March Mayhem will not be running this year. Other than that I do not know any more information on the subject.
What a shame.

And here I was waiting for another Zynga-pocalypse.

Who knows, maybe I'll never get to see another one.

What a shame.

Calumon: We're still here? :S
Holy crap, I haven't seen you two in like forver! :D

Kinda surprised they canned the whole March Madness thing but at the same time maybe it's for the best, it does make everything go crazy around here with all the fanboys coming out of the woodworks. Does anyone have that Goat badge working for them? Mine isn't doing a thing for at all.
My Goat badge is working and it is glorious.

OT: Eh I'm not too disappointed. It makes the slight kind of boring since all the most active threads are the MM ones and a lot of posters I enjoy usually get banned cuz they have to argue instead of voting and moving on. No biggie.

1. We're not doing March Mayhem because it's a ton of work and you folks didn't seem to enjoy it all that much. Pretty simple, really. If we come up with a fresh way to do it that we think you'll enjoy, we'll absolutely bring it back, but until then, we'd rather give you guys engaging content that you'll find exciting.

2. The whole fake permaban notice? Not cute. Knock it off.

What's with all the banned people in this thread? Did I miss something?
Banned people have this avatar:

and their posts are blurred out.

Like so.

It's some Pub Club joke, or something. Like when they all decided to have the same avatar or whatever it was last year.

Mods are doing it too. I am not saying that as a "So why can't we", just as a heads up.

Ugh.

Honestly, I hope they just give it a miss this year. It completely takes over the forms for the whole month, and is basically a giant waste of time.

And it brings out the stupid in people more than usual. Myself included.
Pretty much this. For the last four years I've watched these generally nice forums descend into some of worst flame wars around March Mayhem. Glad we can have break from it.

Everyone knew Zynga was going to win this year, so there was no use even voting.

I thought this would be a thread about Basketball...anyway, it could be that it was cancelled. Or it could be that it'll start before the week is out. Granted, it's only been March for two days, both of which are pretty slow days here and, on the news feed. Maybe Monday we'll see some MM stuff but honestly, I haven't participated the last few years.

Im both happy and sad its gone. Happy because it turns the forums into a gigantic flamewar that usually lasts long after MM is over.

Sad because I was really lookin forward to even more recognition to Telltale for The Walking Dead.

This right here is something that has always pissed me off about March Mayhem. Not that there aren't any rules to the voting, but that some people created their own rules. One that came up frequently was that the voting should be based on what the developer had done the previous year. Now, if you want to make your own rules when you're voting, fine, that's OK. But don't go mental when other people don't follow the rules that you've set for yourself.

OT: well, it's kinda sad to see it go. I always liked the idea, but it really brought out the absolute worst in people on this site.

Aww, that's a shame. I really look forward to March Mayhem because I need something counter all the basketball craziness in my house around the same time. I was hoping the matchups would be good this year.

Think it may have something to do with the change in management? Themis Media doesn't own this place anymore, they sold it last year. The new management has kind of quietly been making changes to how things are run, from what I can tell. Maybe this is one of them.

Edit: Didn't see Susan's post. I think it's a pretty sensible decision, overall.

March Mayhem is where it belongs...In the past. I've been here since it started and I always avoided the forums during March. The only good thing that I can say about it is that it brought new people to the site.

On the bad side, it created tension between forum members, public outcry when favorites are eliminated, even bigger outcry when a company that the site usually hates win, it brought a looooooooooooooot of trolls to the forums, it was probably a moderator's nightmare and most people seem to post that it's a bad idea to begin with during the month of April.

Oh yeah, if Valve loss against anything, you didn't want to check any comments on any thread for at least a month. It was a way to keep your sanity here.

Never taken part in MM but from how others describe the event it's probably for the best it was cancelled

Increased site traffic during the events made it a pain to access regular content, people signing up accounts just to jump into the arguments damaged the community, last year the forum rules were relaxed which resulted in a much greater percentage of spam and flamewar, and because nobody locked the competition threads after the dust had settled and the victors announced embers were still burning into May.
