I like the Wii. And had so much fun with Metroid Prime Trilogy. I'm probably the only PC gamer who have nothing against motion controls.

Oh, my God, the horror of choosing the right tool for entertainment. I can't stand the pressure, I can't play without incredible precision and dozens of hotkeys. I'm wrong for enjoying XCOM with a gamepad, I have sinned for thinking about Dark Souls with keyboard and mouse. Doesn't matter if it's uncomfortable for me, I have to adapt or I will be playing the inferior version. Now I see the truth, thank you.

The "most fullfilling and elaborate experience" is a very personal concept. I don't like keyboard and mouse because isn't fun for me. That's all I'm talking about.

Becareful using the word 'only', people here like to yell in your face YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE! lol

I wouldn't have minded the Wiimote so much if I wasn't forced to use it on the menu screen and most games released for the Wii.

I too prefer controller too in most cases, but not when it comes to RTS. Endwar is so far the only RTS i've seen working really well on consoles.

Yes, i do even prefer controller in FPS games.

Get over it. You are over psychoanalysing your need to play with controller. If you just play more with mouse and keyboard you will get more used to it and for games where it is the better control option it will feel even more natural than a controller.

Well I am just saying that right tools can enhance your experience and wrong ones can break it. If you feel you can handle it, more power to you.

You don't get it, Sogeking. I certainly can play with kb/m, and I have already finished some games that way (Portal, Amnesia, Penumbra trilogy, Condemned etc), but it isn't the same thing. I don't know why it's so difficult to understand that some people prefer the product specifically designed for playing games. I'm always giving up of games like Mass Effect because I can play other games, like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, with a 360 controller, in a more comfortable position. Doesn't help with headshots, but fits very well in my hands.

The feeling that a position is more comfortable or that a controller is better because it fits in your hand is just because you are more used to it. You are just using rationalizations to justify getting over the barrier where the control system that certain types of games were designed around feels like an equally comfortable sitting position and feels like your hands fall on them like they were designed for that purpose. In the end they say it takes 10,000 hours to master something.

Yeah, of course, I really needed 10000 hours of training for enjoying Donkey Kong Country when I as a kid. We were talking about entertainment or work here? You can think that I'm on a long road of self-learning for embrace the superiority of shooters with mouse and keyboard, or you can think that I prefer gamepads, your choice.

I'll take a K/M setup over a controller any day, to me it feels a lot more comfortable, and i can do more actions in a shorter amount of time. It's probably because this is how i grew up playing games, i have never been into consoles because they never offered anything that would appeal to me that i couldn't already play on my PC. A controller is better in fighting games and probably sports related games but i rarely play sports games and i never play fighting games, i don't find them at all attractive. Controllers feel clunky whereas I prefer something a bit more precise. As I mostly stick to FPS, Action, RPG and some RTS games my keyboard/mouse setup is significantly better, at least for me.

So basically it will always come down to your own preferences and the way you have played games all your life. Both have their own pros and cons and in the end you will choose the one with the faults you can bear, that is if you only choose one, because nobody stops you from using both equally.

The only thing that bugs me is when games ported from consoles on pc have really bad keyboard settings that don't feel at all natural. We have more keys, we don't have to stack more than 1 action on a key. Come on devs, let us bind our keys however we see fit, you won't lose anything by doing so, you will only gain more respect and recognition from the pc scene.

I love the mouse and I love the left analogue stick for movement. Why can't we have both?

Personally, there are very few games that I prefer controllers over keyboard/mouse on. Side-scrolling fighting games, for example are made for the controller.

Hell, even in Dark Souls I played with the keyboard/mouse.
It's just that I don't like the clunky feel of controllers. To me, they feel like a lump of metal that doesn't allow you to aim where you want it to.
The again, I don't even own a console or even a TV, so my experience with controllers is very limited.

Do you think that you qualified as a master of donkey kong country as a kid? I hated the SNES controller anyway, being used to real joysticks. If you had told me that the SNES controller was supposed to be some sort of pinnacle of controllers designed for the playing of games that sits in your hands naturally then I would have assumed you were joking.

Well, I don't know what to say, you completely missed the point.

I'm really trying to understand why you're insisting that I will eventually prefer keyboard and mouse, since I'm using keyboard and mouse for years and still use for some games (Hotline Miami was the last), and telling you that I tried the two options and prefer using a controller. It's like you really believe that playing shooters with a mouse is the only logical option, even if I'm not having as much fun.

And I don't like the SNES controller either. Nintendo thinks that hands don't grow. The Wiimote has the same problem with the 2 tiny buttons.

Here's the thing, all of your arguments over why you like controllers are why I prefer to use keyboard and mouse for most games. For a lot of games (especially first person shooters), when I'm playing on a gamepad, I feel like I'm fighting the controls, and thus I have less fun. Granted, there are a lot of games that I'm indifferent on, or actually prefer using a controller, but the lack of keyboard and mouse support for most console games is a big thing that actively prevents me from going primarily console (that, and I just don't want to, but that's an entirely different discussion).

Ultimately, though, it's about preference. If you prefer using one control scheme, there is no good reason why you should have to use another.

I prefer controllers for some games, and keyboard + mouse for others. I find for Skyrim, for example, the controls for the keyboard are much more intuitive. However, that may be because I started playing it on keyboard and got used to it that way. Currently, I'm on a Dungeon Siege 3 binge, and I find using a controller is much better for that game. So, I guess I can't really claim to have a preference.

Also, for someone who claims you are still learning English, your opening post was very well written, and a lot easier to understand than some posts I've read. Good job!

I've been using a keyboard and mouse so long, mouselook is as natural as moving my head... and combined with a keyboard, I can move at any angle, in any direction quite naturally. Mind you, it only works at toggled speeds (shift for run/walk and a sprint button, for example), but most games implement a thumbstick in a similar manner, with only a few graduations of speed depending on how far you press it in a given direction...

So I have very much the opposite experience in my gaming controls. Any time I'm trying to control a camera angle, cursor, or first-person perspective... well, that's essentially a cursor anyway... with a thumbstick, it gets really awkward. I mean, I can do it, sort of. But it feels like I'm fighting the controls the entire time, and I'm very, very acutely aware in shooting games that I'm only hitting things thanks to aim-assist. I'm used to having to place cursors with absolute pinpoint accuracy using a mouse... so that makes any hit I make with a thumbstick feel like it was given to me... if that makes sense. I may be the only person ever to throw down a controller after winning a game with the exclamation of "bullshit, I missed!"

It really depends on the Game for example I will play games like dishonoured with a controller as it feel right to me
I will also Use my controller for flying In planetside 2 -when Not flying keyboard and mouse even though I suck at it-
