I think Ghosts sold very poorly (at least for COD). I have a bunch of shooter friends on my PSN list and I've only seen 2 on Ghosts, I actually have more on Blops2. Whereas almost every damn person got GTA5 when it launched.

If I was going to get it this close to next gen, I'd wait the extra month or two. It's what I'm doing with FF14.
If you buy the PS3 version of FF14, you get the PS4 version as well (it might be for digital sales as my friend bought it digitally and he said it included the PS4 version). I have no idea for the Xbox side.
FFXIV isn't coming to 360 or XBone.

No idea what went wrong with Ghosts, on the launch day I checked my friends list on my Xbox and not one person was playing Ghosts, most people were playing GTAV or Fifa 14. Right now its pretty much the same except there are a couple right now playing Black Ops 2 instead, curious. Might be that most people are waiting for the One/ PS4 to drop before they buy it, only time will tell I guess.

I just find it rather funny that they came out saying "Our game is going to beat GTA V! FUCK YEAH! C-O-D! C-O-D! C-O-MOTHERFUCKIN'-DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Then their game comes out and fails to surpass the sales of the previous installment. "Yeah, we blame GTA V for our lack of sales..."
Righteous indignation in it's purest form.

And what's more...COD could very well break a million in sales after PS4/XB1 launch...but it will have taken longer for them to do it than GTA V did, and it would be collectively across FOUR platforms, while GTA V did in less than a week on TWO.

BURN.

Honestly, who didn't see this coming? Even Activision, outside of a near-release comment about breaking GTAV records, was very much aware of the fact that the game wasn't going to sell as well as past games, largely due to some gamers holding off to buy it on the new consoles. The only way this is "news" is that it confirms what everyone, even Activision, understood was going to happen.

It's all my fault...I didn't buy my copy...

I'M SORRY ACTIVISION!!!! CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME!?!?!?!

...ahem. Funny enough, I agree with them about the console transition. Call of Duty has been on some shaky ground lately and it wasn't going to take much more weight to have it begin to crack. The new console launch splits their user base. I would never play another game of CoD if my buddies stopped playing it. If they were planning on getting the Xbox One and I wasn't, of course they're going to buy it on the One and therefore leaving me behind, losing them a sale. I imagine this same scenario has played in many a homes over this launch...

I'm curious to see if the numbers spike back up with the Xbox One/PS4 launch...
It's also been getting realtively poor reviews, and after playing it a while (PC version) it's not hard to see why, it takes away a lot of the nice things about Blops 2 (flexible loadouts for the campaign, a more open campaign with a branching story and more variety, good bot support) and really adds very little outside of a few gimmicky modes and a dog.

What's really hilarious is what some people have already pointed out: they're blaming their lack of sales on a game that came out two months ago. Now THAT'S sad.

as well as the close launch to Grand Theft Auto V, for causing this decline.
I blame the combined effect of GTA V, Battlefield 4, the 'Modern Warfare Trilogy' being finished and finally feeling the effects of releasing the same damn game every year since 2007.

It had to happen sooner or later, CoD's overall sales have been on a plateau for two or three years now, this might be the beginning of the contraction. Feel sorry for the people at IW about to get canned.

I was thinking about buying it since some of my friends were, but I couldn't think of three worthwhile additions to the game that made it different from COD:BO2.

We'll know for sure after the PS4/XBone releases come out, but for now I suspect that the Call of Duty formula is kind of wearing off. Personally, I was a huge fan of the CoD games but somewhere between MW2 and MW3 I got kind of desensitized to everything exploding all the time and awesome first-person scripted action sequences have lost their excitement factor.

Makes sense. How many people are waiting for PS4/Xbox One? Anyone who plays on playing it long term Im sure. I know Im waiting since I don't want to be stuck on an old system when I will eventually have my next one set up.

Maybe it is because COD Ghosts isn't that great of a game, it certainly isn't worth the full price tag.

I'm sure that's what they'd like to believe, but I think it's worth noting that this is also the first COD game in recent years to get scores in the 70s on Metacritic. All of the Black Ops and Modern Warfare games were consistently in the 80s and 90s across the major non-handheld platforms. Even the Wii version of Black Ops got an 80. The User scores- while, admittedly, often absurdly low- are hovering around 2 out of 10 for both the PS3 and XBox 360 versions.

The backtalk I've heard suggests that players aren't thrilled with the maps or the multiplayer modes, and that quick-snap sniper aiming is so disproportionately over-powered that people are going into close-range fights with sniper rifles and winning.

I think Activision might have an actual problem, not just a timing issue.
