Casey Hudson has confirmed on Twitter that it's co-op, which is better for the series than competitive MP. Also bear in mind that the game was gonna be released this fall, but got pushed to spring. that fact says to me in my incredibly overoptimistic state of mind that they probably decided to include multiplayer and were like "we need more time, let's push back the release", so hopefully it'll be not a huge detraction from the single-player, if any. Moreover, a Mass Effect game's singleplayer campaign with some detractions is still going to be far better than most other games' single-player campaigns.

It's a nice idea to have co-op but i don't like it, multiplayer programmings means half the content will be getting chucked out the window as with any other game that has multiplayer.

Another disappointment to add to the list on top of the fact that the pc version of skyrim will be a console port.

I can't see that a coop mode won't somehow affect the storyline. Oh well, maybe the worry is not needed. Bioware hasn't let me down yet...except maybe a little with DA2.

if it doesnt interfere with the single player, im sure everyone will be happy. personally i dont want my friends playing it in coop with me, they can bugger off. if the multiplayer is stand alon and good, then yay. if they fuck it up then ill be pissed off and they will be bellends for bothering with it

You know, I was all upset about this, but if it's just co-op and not some kind of team deathmatch crap, I'm actually kind of happy about it. What better game to play with two friends? It'd be cool to have to actually work as a team, instead of just getting do have your squad members do whatever you tell them. And can you imagine how cool it would be to play as Garrus?

What are your thoughts on this?

Think it will affect the campaign in a negative way?

Personally... I am not too keen on multiplayer in ME3. But maybe it'll be fun. I don't mind as long as the SP is still as amazing and long as before.
I am also not especially keen on the mp element in the campaign. Although if it is something outside of the story, I am all in. Something similar to the CoD Modern Warfare 2 Spec Ops 'mission' would be awesome. I mean, the Spec Ops feature was the highlight of that otherwise forgettable game - for me at least

Maybe I am a pesimist but Bioshock 2 had a lot of potential and the multiplayer killed it. Same as Dead Space 2. I hope this will not be the same destiny.

And we should all bear in mind that Bioware does have some Multiplayer experience. It was called Neverwinter Nights. And it was excellent.

Bleh, I still don't think a game like Mass Effect needs multiplayer at all, but I'm probably never gonna touch the damn mode so it doesn't really affect me.

This seems kind of redundant. Nobody, and I mean nobody, wanted multiplayer in ME. We have enough multiplayer games, thanks.

TO EVERYONE WHO SAY'S BIOWARE DOESN'T DO MULTIPLAYER

Neverwinter Nights has some of the best multiplayer going and people still play.

That is all.

It seems a bit late in the series to implement this but if it's done right, this could be a really good thing.
I do love how people moan about stagnation in games, but when a developer tries something new it gets shot straight down.
If Bioware are doing this because they want to, rather than the publishers forcing them to do it, then I'm sure it will work out. As someone already pointed out, both Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights both gave you the co-op option and both of those are still high up in my list of great games, and I still play them more then a decade later.

Well this sounds like a needless jumping on the bandwagon...
I just hope its done well and doesnt either detrack from the single player or just make it unbalanced.
But given the last few years, thats probably not gonna happen.

This post had unusually high levels of fail in it and had to be removed before the failplague spread.

Well i was enthusiastic about playing this but...now...im fairly sure it will be bad. I was hoping for Homefront to be good but its multiplayer raped its story with a spoon, so im guessing mass effects will too. But hey iv been wrong before.
