You can grab your Omni Tools and electronically switch off the rumour mill, it's been announced:

What are your thoughts on this?

Think it will affect the campaign in a negative way?

Personally... I am not too keen on multiplayer in ME3. But maybe it'll be fun. I don't mind as long as the SP is still as amazing and long as before.

So long as there's some kind of horde-mode thing, I'll be happy. Sick of ending the game with a load of awesome abilities and nothing to use them on.

As long as it is being made by a seperate group, thus no resources are detracted from making the main story, they can go ahead with that. Though if it is co-op, I don't see the appeal, I mean... your friend will be the hero, making all the big moral decisions, doing all the character interactions, while you would be watching there, feeling bored and useless.

People play call of duty and battlefield 3 for multiplayer. People play Mass effect for single player. Any time making a multiplayer aspect should have been put into furthering/polishing the single player. This feels like metroid prime 2 all over again. Great single player game yet wasted development time on a multiplayer that nobody asked for. The kinect functionality is also unneeded and a waste of development time.

Oh marvellous.

So either the single player's going to be five hours long or the multiplayer's going to stink. All so EA can tick the box on it's release day feature list.

Thanks guys.

I'm rather disappointed. They've diverted resources from the singleplayer and put them into multiplayer, when Mass Effect was a singleplayer series, people played it for singleplayer. Mass Effect does seem to have been leaning towards the shooter side of "shooter RPG" and hopefully this isn't a sign that the balance has totally tipped.

OH GOD, MULTIPLAYER IS IN A GAME! THE GAME IS GOING TO SUCK AND GAMING IS DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAD BEACAUSE NO GAME HAS EVER HAD A MULTIPLAYER MODE ADDED ONTO IT THAT DIDN'T SUCK BAWW BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Great, now that I've gotten every single naysayer out of the way, I can speak my peace.

This is pretty exciting and I can't wait to see how it's implemented. Co-op, which is what the rumored multiplayer mode is apparently going to be, is a great way to enjoy games with friends, and Mass Effect's stellar third-person shooter formula caters perfectly to a co-op setting.

That contradicts itself.

If the money and staff are available for a separate group, why are those resources not available for the single player?

Their very existence means they detract from the development of the single player!

Can't say I'm thrilled to learn this, but I have no idea how its going to be implemented or impact the single player.

Knee-jerk reaction however: Ew, multiplayer in my Mass Effect? GTFO

Bioware has been on a rapid decline for the last few years now. Is anyone really surprised anymore by their absolute stupidity and incompetence?

This doesn't really have much to do with multiplayer in ME3, but more or less just a general reminder that Bioware is a shell of its former glory.

Agreed.

If it's co-op I'll be fine. But I seriously doubt it'll be that. Why in the world would they do this to the ending of a major trilogy (story wise)? Why fuck up on the story and what should amount to be a damned epic ending for a great series and waste time and money on multiplayer (mind you, multiplayer that may not even be good)?
I'm fine with Mass Effect multiplayer. That doesn't bother me. But it should have waited for a spin off game. They shouldn't be altering the ending of a story line in what is a single player experience for a multiplayer experience that the majority of Mass Effect players and fans wouldn't need. >>

Keep in mind, that when I say 'fuck up' I'm not assuming the story will be bad. I'm saying that 'fucking up' is them making a decision to take time and money from single player when single player is what Mass Effect is known for.

i highly doubt this will work out. bioware RPG's have never had multiplayer before so why they start now is beyond me but its probably just going to end up ruining the game.

As long as it's implemented well and doesn't detract from the single-player campaign I'm fine with it. I probably won't be using it much but i don't usually enjoy multiplayer very much.

Besides i've had the game preordered since the first trailer reveal and i HAVE to finish the story. Otherwise I'll always be left wondering how it ended.

Don't care. Hate the stupid multi-player bandwagon everyone seems to be jumping on lately. It will suck, I'm calling it right now.

Call me highly optimistic. If the Multiplayer is something like deathmatch, capture the flag, or anything like that, then I will be somewhat sad (but that's because I'm not really into those type of modes). If its similar to Horde mode, then that's just awesome. Co-op? As long as its a separate mode (as I don't really see it working out too well in Single Player) detailing some events that happen during the story that we might not get to see (maybe even some more appearances of characters that may only be temporary squad mates in the single player portion)then that's just as good. You don't even have to play as your Shepard for any of this. Maybe just random Batarian Soldier, or some Turian biotic, etc. This way they can totally explain the balance issues that will occur with the classes if they decide to implement that type of feature.

Honestly, it all depends on how Bioware handles it. The multiplayer/co-op makes sense given the setting of ME3, but if it ends up actually feeling like I'm playing online as opposed to something that I can see happening in the universe/story, then I'll probably be a bit put off.

Either way, I'm going to get this game. I'll just need to wait a bit more on how these modes work and actually play. Not too worried. At the very least I'll try the multiplayer out.

I think it's a stupid idea. We're at the end of this epic trilogy, lots of pressure to finish on a high-note and they waste resources on fucking MULTIPLAYER?! REALLY?!

We don't need a fucking multiplayer section in Mass Effect! What the fuck?

Then again, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights had multiplayer, so we'll see. But until I'm proven wrong...
