It's official: Netflix Punisher series in production

Title says it all. The long awaited announcement of a solo series staring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) has coming to the streaming service. It seems the popular demand from fans was enough to convince Marvel and Netflix to create the 6th series in their collaborative work. It has not been announced if he will appear in The Defenders miniseries however.

Personally I've already made it clear on this forum how I felt about this: it's great. The Punisher v. Daredevil arc was the best part of Daredevil's second season, and it'll be interesting to see Marvel's first attempt at a serious anti-hero story.

Blame back room politics at Marvel. I want to see Kingpin in the MCU but that won't happen either.

Woohoo!! Seriously, Punisher was the best thing about this new season of Daredevil.

And I honestly didn't even think about adding Blade to the mix, but count me in. Assuming Iron Fist is a hit, it'll show that we can combine these darker and grittier "Marvel Knights" things with magic and more supernatural stuff.

I think he's talking about the backdoor politics of the studios themselves. Marvel Studios and Marvel Television have made it no secret that there's some bad blood between the two, and that there are people on both sides of the corporate family who hate things the other have done, and it's because of people like Kevin Feige that the whole thing hasn't devolved into a Japanese conglomerate rivalry style showdown.

I want to not believe you, but considering Marvel likely killed Wolverine just to spite Fox, I have to believe it. Creative control is an important thing, even at corporate levels, and it still makes no sense to me how Marvel doesn't have carte blanche on their properties. Fuck Hollywood.

It's because Marvel went bankrupt and sold the movie rights to many of their characters to stay afloat. It was initially hoped that Fox buying the movie rights to X-men, Fantastic Four and a few others would both save the studio and help them translate their properties to the big screen.

Then Fox screwed them over due to legal stunts which massively cut down how much money they would get from theatrical releases, so Marvel saved up the capital from selling merchandise and comics and financed two movies of their own: Iron Man and Incredible Hulk.

At this point, due to the long history Fox and Marvel have, I won't even begin to believe the rumours of the X-men crossing over with the MCU until after Marvel makes an announcement that it's official. Not even Fox saying it will make me believe.

I will wait for when Wolverine catches Captain America's Shield on top of a car. Its worked well for me so far. A true New Avengers movie would be sweet.

Well, he was the only interesting thing to come out of Daredevil's second season so it only makes sense.

Hopefully he'll still be good as a lead. I think a lot will depend on what other characters they include. He kinda needs someone to bounce off.

I think this could be a really good series. But I really hope they open and close each episode with narration and call it "Punisher's War Journal."

Hell add Microchip and some things from Punisher MAX. You've got a good base right thier. Add Elektra for a two episode storyline about killing for pleasure over killing for "justice" and you've got some good drama.

If so, does Marvel have the rights to Ghost Rider now, or some other studio has them? The first two Ghost Rider movies had some good action but the rest felt off. Hell, are Marvel ready to introduce the Devil or a form of him.

The Ghost Rider rights are back in Marvel's hands. As it stands Fox owns the X-men, Deadpool, Cable, Silver Surfer and Fantastic Four, Sony owns Spider-Man, Universal has an odd deal regarding Namor and New Line Pictures owns the production rights to a Blade movie (which just means they'd be contracted to film it if Marvel wanted to make one).

I'm glad this is a thing that's finally happening. The Punisher storyline was probably the best part of Daredevil season two and I'm not surprised to see this news.

Someone hasn't been watching the MCU's Netflix series. If there's words I'd not use to descripe the three seasons across two series we've seen so far, it's "Colourful", "Fun", "Humorous" and "Quippy".
