It's probably pc gamers own fault games are becoming console oriented.

^ also its much simpler to pirate on PC. I know more than a few people who pirate everything on pc (despite owning all consoles in one case).

in that cases defence though he plays pirated games more like demos. recent example he pirated brink on pc then bought it on console when he decided he liked it.

piracy = money not going to the devs. if piracy is more common on pc then a pc only game will lose a bigger proportion of its profits this way.
and on another note fallout new vegas was obsidian, bethesta just published it.
My friend gets every one of his games for free on his PC, pretty much on release day. And I'm talking all the best AAAs, not just low budget or indie games.

PC gamers don't always insist on the best graphics possible. World Of Warcraft is a hugely popular game and it's set up to run on just about any PC. And just look at the incredibly popular Minecraft to see graphics that would have been considered low-fi last generation.

The real graphical arms race has always (and still is) taken place in first person shooters. There are currently two companies that are really pushing for more powerful consoles and both of them made their name bringing PCs to their knees. Epic and Crytech. Both were developing next gen engines on spec, because they want their games to look the absolute best they can.

Just about everyone else, they rise up to about whatever level is considered acceptable for their genre. A lot of PC gamers were happy playing games with lots of details turned down or off, because it has always been about the games.

What gives you the impression that pc gamers demand games with the best graphics available? I mean look at minecraft, it sold quicker the crack cupcakes and has awful graphics. At the end of the day most of us are happy if our games are just ported well.
Edit;
I suspect the move to consoles is due to a higher level of profit, because games can be priced higher on consoles and (this is just an assumption) that people on consoles are more likely to buy a game on release day, while pc games are more happy to sit back and wait for patches, mods, a price drop or to upgrade their pc.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Minecraft doesn't have bad graphics, it has low-resolution textures. And it still manages to look good.

OT: Everything I wanted to say has already been said, so I'll just leave now.

Consolification is an overused term. Way to many PC gamers mistake streamlining or just making it simple as consolification. Consolification is if anything for games like Bionic commando where they ask you to press analog stick to move....

Why does the thread reads to me like "Its the fault of consoles that gaming is not evolving and we are going to the same place where we started(Atari 2600)"
There are thousands of sales to be made in PC gaming. All you need to do is make your game have shit graphics and fun gameplay so that every machine can run it. If you make it too graphically intensive then you would face the problem that Crysis did but if your game is graphically not so intensive then everyone can run it and enjoy it. Heck if you want to avoid the "Bad Graphics" criticism then just make it so that at the lowest setting, almost any recent system can run the game. This is something bethedsa seems to fail to achieve everytime. Their games are so badly optimized that even on a behemoth of a PC the game will lag if there are more than 5 NPCs on the screen. You cannot blame the consumer for being actually smart can you now?

One reason we're (supposedly) seeing more developers turning to console's is because it's a little bit harder to pirate a Console CD than a PC. You have to actually physically steal it, which is a bit harder to do than just illegally downloading it.
no you don't. : p pirating something for a console is only a tad harder than doing it for a pc.

Also i would like to point out that games usually get pirated to console before it gets pirated on the pc. (look at DNF for instance.)

Better graphics aren't going to increase the production costs that much. Actually optimizing the games for consoles is more costly than giving a PC game better graphics.

But yeah its not a big mystery why devs are moving towards consoles, its a bigger market since theres a lot more piracy on PC gaming. And the PC crowd who actually buy their games is very tiny compared to the console crowd, not to mention that they pay more for their games. Its not actually the (honest) PC gamers fault that this is happening, its just the way it is.

Nah the PSN was a hack not a virus. It's why it was called a hack and not a virus. It's true that the system was breached via insecurities in it's network which a virus could of also exploited there wasn't actually a virus involved though.
I have information which suggests otherwise - where I'm not willing to reveal the source.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Nope there isn't. You have to kill it and then order someone to butcher it. Then you will get the skin.
Also, I believe PSN going down WAS a hack not a virus.

No.

It's the complexity of the architecture that greatly increases development costs and effort for the PC. This drives developers to consoles, and have to make use of their limited controls. Yes indeedy, the dual stick controller is no substitute for the mouse and keyboard.

Also, there is less piracy or perceived less piracy on consoles. So, to the degree that PC gamers pirate games, maybe your point is valid, but if console gamers could pirate games as easy as PC gamers can, then the problem would be at least as big if not bigger there.

you forgot the whole pc gamers being elitist assholes. refusing to help out others because they dont know whats the best of what part. and since each one has their own opinion on what is the best, they refuse to help you if you guess wrong. its as if being a pc gamer is like being a stonecutter

in my eyes, pc gamers have noone to blame but themselves when people say pc gaming is dead
Yeah but it's better then consoles where every player is a dumb 12 year old playing Call of Duty and Halo screaming over the mic. Stereotyping is fun! Most PC gamers I've talked to on forums are fairly polite and reasonable human beings just like most console players I've talked to. There are elitist jerks for all platforms. Honestly, I've seen more console players saying 360 is better then PS3 or PS3 is better then 360 then I've seen elitist PC gamers. And why would we blame ourselves just because some people think PC gaming is dead? It's fine, I just played it a few hours ago.

It can cost upwards of $100 million to develop a AAA title why would a developer or publisher who just dropped that amount of money limit the game to one platform unless they own it.

Its simply a case of being able to make more sales on a cross platform launch.

If graphics were the be all and end all GOG.com would go out of business and I would not be currently playing planescape: torment.

Almost all post I have seen on the subject is about people being afraid that the game will have terrible controls on PC because of a console centric design, something that there are a lot of games that prove is a way real concern, not whether that console shouldn't get an awesome game.

Im not aiming that at this thread in general, but latley I have seen quite a lot of this, besides making more assesible does not mean dumbing down, it means making it easier!
(I think so dont quote me on this :p)

I am no troll i dont want to insult pc gamers or say consoles are better these are things i think Pc gamers whine about.
That's what a troll would say.

EDIT: May as well put in my two cents anyway.
I disagree.
