Unfortunately I don't really have any ideas so if anyone has any suggestions at all, please post them.

I mean really, what even brings us together as a community? It sure as hell ain't mutual love, respect and empathy.

Anyways i'm covered, i already found a forum i manage to fit in without even trying and whose moderation style suits me perfect, and find it far more friendlier to boot. But that's for my own tastes, i know for a fact a lot of people wouldn't stomach the site i'm thinking of.

Any number of people can make a discord server. If someone were so inclined they could make another then make everyone confirm who they are via PM here and make sure that unwanted elements stay out!

I did some more searching and found a few but... They all have their own individual problems. NeoGAF didn't look that bad at all but of course, paid registration, so that's an automatic no from me.

NeoGAF doesn't have paid registration? I once signed up ages ago. It doesn't accept certain e-mail accounts though if that's what you're referring to.

And personally I dislike a few people here quite a bit

Whoops. Looks like you're right. But yeah, it does need to be a "paid-for" email account. So an email that you got from your ISP or college or something.

As to the people, again, I really don't see a problem. Things get heated here yeah, but never more than that. Trust me. If every forum community were as civil as this one, we'd be in online heaven.

Yah, that's what I did at the time, used my college e-mail. Much more palatable than paying for an account

So it looks like Giant Bomb is our best bet. It's active enough with allowance of image posting. And I think the staff seems competent.

As to NeoGAF, it looks like that may not be an option again because the wait times to be accepted after registration are pretty ridiculous, ranging from a month to a full year apparently. Or at least that's what I read, but the thread was pretty old so they may have removed it by now or just put it on automatic acceptance after a certain amount of time passes.

There's also the gaming forum on MMORPG.com but that seems less active and of course is less dedicated to games in general. That's not too much of a problem though for me personally.

Then we have a big difference of opinion here, because I don't see the forced civility as an upside. All that has ever done for this site is raise people into brushing up their rheotric and sly passive aggressiveness whilst making people like me feel like i have a hand tied behind my back because i don't like being all indirect and writing tldr pages of rheotic interlaced with gotcha "wittycisms".

I'd much PREFER it one had the freedom to outright rage at me, I'd respect that in some weird way as an expression of raw emotion without any pretense to the contrary. Instead we get passive agressive tldr and people with years of experience in toeing the line with insinuations and baiting comments, or just having a general antagonistic+smug attitude to spite others.

So beg to differ, every other forum being like this one is my idea of online hell second only to places like neogaf where it's easy to get outright banned for not having the right opinions.

And this is why I said the forum i found is better "for my own tastes" and that i know most others would disagree.
The forums i've been seeking and eventually joined have little in common with the escapist forums which is a good thing in my eyes, so if you're looking for an escapist 2.0 then i got nothing :S

Yeah, see, I know what happens when that happens. And when it does, it's not contained in one thread. Oh no. It spreads across the entire forum. The forum turns into pure salt and the waahhhmbulance works overtime. Not to mention the unrestrained DDoS' and spam attacks.

Unchecked drama tears the community apart faster than you can say tears. Passive aggressiveness is annoying, yeah. But from what I've read, it always stays in the thread where it started and it rarely ever ventures out of that. The notable exception was Epic Wynn, and honestly? You guys fueled that little dumpster fire.

I'm not that fond of Giantbomb. The people are kind of all the same. I think it comes from being into the video portion of the site. They almost all follow the staff/crew and are generally like-minded, calling each other duders. When I mentioned that I don't even watch the videos in one of my threads, a few of the users found it weird that I was even there and said I was missing out on a lot of discussions that were related to the videos.

The forum code is kind of shitty. I wish they used BB codes instead of those weird uploaded pictures that are confusing to arrange around your text.

Fair enough. I don't really have any experience there.
