first of all please dont take this the wrong way...buuuuuut anywayits interesting to note the differences in Japanease and western game design so anyway..and yeah Im not very familiar with Japanease games
ok I decided to try out Yakuza 3, because it looked interesting and I liked the Idea of the gritty world of the Yakuza
soooo after a long time spent recaping on the storys of the previous games (very necciary as the first thing I notice about thease games are the plots are very complex/convoluted)
and yeah the storys were pretty cool
so THEN after recapping I start playing....sort of, more watching really
now this is my first problem with thease games, I love storys and quite like cutscenes....but SWEET JESUS I get the impression here they were really just making a movie and tacking the game on afterwards
I mean its not just the long long cutscenes..they are good for cutscenes I supose, BUT its also the jarring use of text-in game, rather than you know, in game charachters talking its just text...and its very bizare to see charachters mouths almost syncing up with the "clack clack clack" noise of the text
my point being it just doesnt help the immersion...to go from cinematic cutscenes to text popping up everywhere
I'll admit I was getting pretty frustrated as the game went on...to the point where I was screaming internally "I just want to kill somthing!!!"
gameplaywise..Im not expereince with fighting games so I cant comment I supose its pretty good...though it doesnt feel very natural
now I admit right here that obviously Im just soo used to the common things in Western games that all this is rather jaarring
AND to the point I got up to I only barley scratched the surfuace (and I have a feeling this is gonna be a looooonng game :/)
and no I'm not giving up here, I'll try and get through it
so my question is how do you feel about Japaease games? (not just RPG's) are there any you like?
EDIT: OK OK I am generalising, I just think I was a little overwhealmed by Yakuzas "japanease"ness after being used to common things seen in current western games
no I dont like Mario eather....but for different reasons (and that game apeals to western audiences fine anyway)
