OK, see, a few weeks ago I turn my X-box on and it shut off instatly and the power-cord adapter was light up red. I googled wat this meant and it said I might try cooling the cord down. So, I let it sit over a cold vent for the night, and plugged it up and it worked just fine. Untill now that is, I recently turned my X-box on and three red rings poped up.. tring to be as calm as possible I turned it off, know that sometimes it can be a false alarm. I turned it back on and it came up with three red rings again. I shut it off, and in one last attempt I pushed on the the power cord into its plug, kinda hard, but not to wher eit would break. I turn my X-box on and it came on like nothing was wrong.

That was fine, until now it would seem everytime I boot it up it has three red rings, but if I push on the back like before, it begin to work normally. I tried looking up this problem, and it didn't turn much up, so I asked my friends and they gave me a cryptic, "Your X-box days are numbered my friend." So, I was wondering if any of you know what might be going on, or if you have similar stories.

Sounds like there's something loose in the console, you're shoving it back into place via the power cord.

I'd just get it covered on whatever warranty it might have, if not then your Box's day are numbered (twilight zone music goes here).

Well, according to "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907534" (Its in spanish) the RROD can appear either for a general system failure (overheating ETC) or for a problem with your power cord (the light turns red as you stated) wich in turn haves to be replaced, i think you can send it for replacement at the XBOX repair center, but i´m not sure, just plug your console in another power outlet to see if its the cord or the system

Which 3 rings are being lit? What alignment do you have your console in?

alightment doesnt count, even if its horisontal or vertical the 3 lights will switch according to placement, and there is only 1 case (i think) where 3 lights are on at the same time and those are the 1rst 3rd and 4rth quadrant, wich means RROD as previously explained it can be because of 2 things

EDIT: and when you said "alignment" the first thing i thought was "caotic evil" hahaha

Seriously, I never turned up anything about the cord.. I may look into getting a new one for chrsitmas, cause it had been putting off the orange light rather than its usual green one.

the orange light is always on?? even if you are playing?? thats weird, check the power cord then before sending your whole console to the repair center.

Also when the rrod is there, hold the controller calibrate button down and press the eject button 4 times. The number of lights should change.

light
1 = 0
2 = 1
3 = 2
4 = 3

This is your secondary error code.

Post it if you can.

This site (among many others) has a list of possible error code meanings.

http://www.xbox360problems.com/Xbox-360-Error-Codes,-What-they-mean.php

Test another power supply if you can, check the error codes. If under warranty, I'd send it back. If not, and your not afraid of opening up and tinkering, there are a number of methods that might repair your issue (depending on what it is) to varying degrees.

There is a bad hack I have seen floating round the internets involving a towel. DO NOT WRAP A TOWEL AROUND IT!! Just in case anyone has suggested that to you.

I have got about 12 months play out of my xbox after the first rrod incident. It is in a coma at the moment, been PC gaming a damn lot more, but will necromance it back into being one fine day.

tbh i think you should just send it back with what you put in this fourum on a post-it or something, maybe they will figure it out. if not, they might just send you a new xbox, or even just a new cord.

My RRoD didn't mean my console was broken immediately. I managed to turn it back on about four or five times before it finally chunked.

Really this happened to me at one point in time. It means it's going to go sooner or later. Hate to break it to you my friend, but mine just recently gave me E74 after I had encountered similar issues.

I got RRoD on my first console, just about the same time my laptop fucked up.

I did what any good British person would do... I went outside and smashed them to pieces with a chair and a golf club. You should do it.

But yeah, Something loosely connected inside your Xbox is causing the problem.

My 360 Ring Ringed today why?

My living room was too cold. FFS Microsoft get a grip. I've asked for about £250 worth of games and accesories for Christmas and I won't now get to use them till fuck knows when.

I recently tried to send my brothers back and the labels didn't open up and even after 6 weeks and 12 emails neither MS or UPS have got back to me. I don't see there being much hope for me even getting mines away now for at least a month. Or 3.

I wish I could help you but I still have one of the earliest models and it has yet to have problems but my friend had something similar wrong with his, his xbox seems to die after about an hour of play and to fix it he has to keep messing with his cord for it to work again, if you figure this out tell me because he fears the RR himself and it would be awesome to help him.
