Yeah, as the title says, I whipped a copy of season 1 on DVD off Amazon and watched the first two episodes. I must say, from a mans POV, it's quite good. It's got everything, massively over the top, gory violence and very beautiful naked women.

The acting is a bit wooden at some points, but the fighting isn't bad at all.

Anyone else watch it? Like it?

I watched it and really enjoyed it. I was originaly put off by the slow mo kool aid like blood flying but I got over it. I really enjoyed the story and have already re watched the season.

If you like it you should check out the next series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. Its a shorter season, 6 episodes I think, that shows how Batiatus (sp?) came to the position he was in before Spartacus arrived. Much more political posturing but plenty of nekid bodies and blood to keep me entertained.

And just in case you missed it Rome on HBO was one of the best series I have seen. Check that one out after you finish Spartacus.

I LOVE that show! And as Cptntequila said go watch Rome too,if you don't like the acting in Spartacus,Rome has better actors. Though you have to admit that John Hannah steals the show.

I thought it was completely over the top (in a good way) and just plain funny at times.

I think a more appropriate title for it would have been

Spartitcus: Blood and tits.

Oh I hope you're a bisexual man, because the very beautiful naked women turn into lots of gay sex about halfway through the season.

I really enjoyed Spartacus. Even though it obviously has over-the-top violence, cruelty and sex, I thought the story was quite interesting. At times I was actually quite shocked at how cruel some of the events were.

I just started watching Gods of the Arena and I'm enjoying that too. The only thing that I'm starting to get tired of is how the people talk.

I found the first few eps fairly boring (only so far gore and tits can carry a program), but it gets really good later on in the series

"Turn into" suggests that the naked women go away, which isn't the case.

No, I'm straight, but I'm a big boy, so I think I can handle a little misplaced cultural taboo.

By the way, could someone please answer me this, I swear that blonde girl that's married to the evil Roman guy is Elliot from scrubs, am I right?

No, that's definitely not her.

And the gay sex... not exactly "little". Wink wink nudge nudge say no more.

Cool, I look forward to being made to feel slightly uncomfortable at the sight of two or more men rutting.

From a Ladies POV it's actually pretty good. The visceral violence is quite entertaining, although some moreaction from girl team would be appreciated, its a good show

Not bad, but Rome is better. Still entertaining, though.

Too bad Spartacus will be played by a different actor next season. :\

Shame the guy who plays Spartacus had to be recast cause he got cancer. Drag, still a great show.

I wasn't much of a fan at the beginning; it was sort of just a gory guilty pleasure with cheesy special effects produced by a few people that was far too inspired by 300.

Then suddenly after the 4th/6th episode it became apparent the writers tied up whoever was doing a piss poor job previously and the show exponentially shot up in quality over time. At the shows inception i thought it was trash, but near the end of the first season it earned it's place as one my most favorite shows of the last decade.

The acting on the part of Andy Whitfield(Spartacus), John Hannah(Batiatus), and Lucy Lawless(Lucretia), all become phenomenal.

It's a shame Andy Whitfields cancer returned and he won't be in season 2.

Spartacus is the heavy metal to the classic rock of HBO's Rome (though honestly Rome wouldn't be nearly as good if not for the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern approach it takes to duo of Titus Pulo & Lucius Vorenus)

I completely agree, The first 2-3 episodes I thought were completely terrible but then this show just kept getting better and better until the season finale which may very well be my favourite season finale of all time.

I tried liking the show as it filled the niche that was left by Hercules/Xena (yeah for the wooden unchallenging performances) But the only real problem I found was pushing for sexual content entirely too hard and too often. It made it almost impossible to watch.

There was a lot of potential there, that got squandered because they were basically just trying to out "dirty" other premium cable offerings.
