Why have I never played a game by them? Apparently they are story driven which is great for me and very original. [Which would help me break away from my habitual Black ops zombie slaying]
AND there new game Catherine is in the survival horror genre [The japs better release it in America! {NOT RACIST}], why can't I brave the unforgiving sun and try out there games? [If I can find one]
But now that I've wasted your time ranting [Which is the majority of all threads]
and accepted the fact that I will probably never play any of there games, if you've played them tell me what there like and if not well ... lets make a cake, preferably Black Forest cake!

Considering the only Atlus game I played was Demon's Souls and it was absolutely terrible, I probably won't play another one.

I've only played one, which was Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. I'm guessing that's not the best to start with, given that it was fucking hard and that it didn't hold my interest enough to perservere through it.

I've been told to play a few Atlus games because of how hilarious they were, Disgaea in particular, and found them to be embarrassingly unfunny. Well, different strokes, I guess.

If your a Legend of Zelda fan then check out 3D Dot Game Heroes.
If your looking for a challenge check out Demons Souls.
I have enjoyed both of these games.

I've only played Demons Souls and stopped there. I've found that Atlus has a huge problem understanding the difference between legitimate challenge and masochism.

I mostly played the Persona series and the Digital Devil Saga.
Persona is pretty much "wake up, go to school, save the world"-JRPG-perfection.
The combat is fun, good characters and they are actually quite challenging (as long as you don´t glue yourself to a strategy guide).
Digital Devil Saga is awesome if you like surreal settings. Combat is similar to persona, i.e. also f*cking hard without strategy guide.

The Trauma Center series is also fun, but by god demo the games first before you buy them (its basically a bunch of minigames you play in peoples organs. And the learning curve is like walking into a brick wall).

So yeah... I suppose Atlus games are hard.
But some people like that.
I know I do.

you could always tv tropes Atlus, they have a lot of info there if you have the time to read it.

As previously stated they tend to be very hard and their JRPG's take quite a while before they start to pick up the pace.

On the other hand they are one of the few JRPG's that is not completely linear and tend to handle many subjects that games rarely address (like the sexuality of Catherine.)

atlus is actually just the publisher for demon's souls, not the actual developer. so dont blame them for that one.

A brick wall covered in porcupines, sharks, and possibly rabid dogs. Games are hard as FUCK. Damn gun though, as long as we're only talkin' the DS ones.
Ah yes, the porcupines.
One must never forget the porcupines....
(I actually destroyed a wii-mote while playing TC on higher difficulty.
Not kidding. Literally smashed it against a wall.
Wall persevered, wii-mote did not.)

Persona 4 was the first game I ever played, that had a gay character (and come on, he totally IS) and handled him WELL.
Mad props for that, if nothing else.

Ahh...Atlus.

Possibly the greatest JRPG developer on the planet.

I'm playing 3 Atlus developed games at the moment.

Devil Survivor
Persona 3 Portable
Persona 4

These games are pretty much the pinnicle of JRPG storytelling. Not so much for gameplay. They are a tad difficult for the layman, or those new to the world of JRPGs. Nothing absurd, but you will need to grind and bit, and always exploit weaknesses.

Same here. Apparently Trauma Center is from Atlus, so the Ds ones are fun. Hard as fuck though.

Bomberman, Guilty Gear, Ogre Battle.

Can't remember if Rule of Rose rocked or sucked in the end.

Yeah, wasn't he that guy who shrugged once?
No, no I think he was that guy who wrote that book named after himself. About weather or something.

At least you don't have to wait for those other 50.000 games to even get release dates, if they ever do.
Then again, not too many are stuck in the phase of shipping everything to America and Japan first, then make Europe wait about half a year or so to even get a proper preview.

As for Atlus, the Shin Megami Tensei series (most notably the Devil Summoner and Persona games) are quite good. Devil Summoner, being considered one of the weakest of the series, is probably my favourite of all their games, mainly due to lots of awesome throughout the game. It's not for everyone though, except maybe for those who aren't big fans of turn-based combat.

Actually, you should be blaming From Software, the guys who actually made the game. Atlus just published the game (that is to say "Published the game in North America". Of course, we were given another 9 months of waiting.)
