I've recently discovered the joy of being abused by elitist music fanboys!

An Opeth fan asked me what I thought of the band, I answered "they have some nice spots but the majority of their material bores me" after which I then proceeded to get a torrent of abuse from the Opeth fan, telling me that I sucked and that I was sub-human and had a bad taste in music.

Yeah.

So who else has had fun being the target of insecure displacement attacks from music fanboys?

Many people do that to me. I just ignore them mostly :)
Sometimes i decide to argue and we have a big "debate" about music always ends up with us finding something we mutually hate to say is shit

People who need to degrade you for your choice of music are often insecure about their own choice.

Never random people but my friends will occasionally say something like "band x or band y?" and we have a discussion usually ending with "meh, both good".

You and your friends are truly the pinnacle of respectful opinion sharing and I mean that sincerely.

Just tell them that they are dumbshits, that music is just sound--mechanical disturbances in the air, and that said disturbances don't give a shit about their opinion.

I show respect to people who have sophisticated taste in music, even if I consider what they like to be crap (like Björk), but I'm always ready to pick on deaf retards, who claim that some shitty pop starlet no one will remember in 5 years is the greatest artist ever.
Why are they not allowed to like that artist the best?

I remember this guy at a party going "which do you like better? X or Y" He was not amused when I usually said niether, and even when I did pick one it was usually the wrong one by his standards. I loled about it though.

My girlfriend's like that a lot, when I said I didn't get what the big deal was about Pink Floyd she teased me and called me a nonbeliever or something like that.

There were some rap fanboys in my art class. They key word being were. Because I ate them.

Not really though, I just gave them my cold, juicy opinion on rap (or at least the rap they were listening to): it was just a bunch of random people talking about shooting each other, snorting drugs, and hookers. One of them played some music off his mp3 player for me to hear, and I replied:
"Amazing. The phrase 'punk-ass bitches' never ceases to amaze."
And his friend said "God, you're so white, man."

Well, yes, I'm white, but that's not why I listen to, you know, actual music.

Neither would you but at least they are actually doing something they like.

ZING! But in all seriousness you can't talk about fanboys when you're already judging books by their cover, it's the very definition of fanboy.

Speaking of, there was this guy in the last place I worked who would not tolerate any slander about the X-Box 360. Every day he had something to say about how much he loved it etc etc, and any conversation he had to eventually swing round to being about the X-Box. I was waiting for him to tell us it cures cancer near the end.

That's because you're a nonbeliever.

I used to get into big debates about music back when I cared about genres and such. But then one day I had an epiphany: music's music. And as long as it's good, I'll listen to it no matter what "genre" it falls into. Needless to say my music library is pretty expansive and open-minded but I still end up having to deal with people saying they don't like a band I like because "that band is stupid and I hate their faces". Nowadays I just wave it off as them being jerkasses about it. I also don't really care what other people listen to anymore. It's all good to some extent.

Opeth are fucking terrible. Just awful.

I love arguing with musical fanboys, especialy metal fanboys. Or just metal fans in general, they're so wrong, and so angry, bless.

Also props to the guy who hates ICP fans. Terrible band with terrible fans. Jugallos? PFFFT!
