I've tried really hard to like Borderlands do I need to give it more time?

I bought Borderlands excited thinking I would love the game, from the opening with a kickass theme to awesome intros for all the characters I thought this would be my game of the year, however for me that was the best part of the game.

I'm not trying to put down people who like the game, but every time I pick up the game I feel like I'm forcing myself to play. I made it to Sledge's safe-house and I'm seriously considering trading it in for No More Heroes 2, but I keep hearing how great it is should does the game take more time to get to the "good parts" or will it just keep being the same thing over and over?

The game is more or less the same throughout, and if you can't find it fun at the point you're at, you probably won't enjoy it for the rest of the game. Go ahead and trade it in if you'd like. It's more or less a hit-and-miss game.

Trade it in for No More Heroes 2.

Just do it!

I'd trade in Uncharted 2, Dragon Age Origins, and Borderlands to get to play No More Heroes 2

In all honesty, RPG style run and gun is the meat and bread of Borderlands. If you really don't like it by the time you get to Sledge, you aren't likely to change your opinion of it.
It's not that I don't like RPG run and gun (Fallout 3 was my favorite game of the last decade) there's just something about Borderlands that I don't like, I just can't put my finger on it

Trade it in. I had the exact same problems with it as you did. People need to learn that combining real time combat with an RPG style leveling system just doesn't work.

Unfortunately, I discovered the same thing. I have no friends who play PC games, so the whole "party mechanic" is null and void. The shooting itself is pretty boring, and the game is VERY monotonous. Not just visually, but mechanically. You will use the same types of guns and tactics forever against the same kinds of enemies.

:(

I rather like it, could do with some more character customisation, but it's entertaining. Especially when you shoot people in the head and they blow up, or catch on fire.

Played for two hours, eventually got lost, got bored very quickly.

Early ennemies reminded me of doom-era ennemies with little to no AI. Classes were "meh" in the way they worked, i got some level ups but no skill to show for it, didnt understand why, didnt bother to continue grinding at critters. Basically, didnt like it much.

The most current DLC for Borderlands is a snoozefest, and once you beat the game, there is no point to beating it again.
The fact that people mod weapons and give them away so easily makes it really unchallenging as well.

I will probably go through and beat the game again but all around the game wasn't as good as the hype.

If you're playing singleplayer, it will probably bore you. The game was designed for Co-Op, singleplayer's just bolted on.
