Why can't the man get behind banning acts of filth that we all agree need to be taken off, like Big Brother?
This man speaks the truth. That show is nothing more than a bastardized (and outlawed) '60's psychology experiment... pointful...

The sooner we all ignore Jack, the sooner he goes away, he's only got as much influence as we let him have.

What is up with you people? A conservative organisation gives a conservative lawyer an award for something they se as positive and you guys talk about it like it is the end of the world. Im glad that the internet is filled with open-minded people who can respect others.
Because the internet is known for it's tolerance and understanding.

Yeah, because Robert Mugabe becoming re-elected is equally as positive then.

What are you talking about? They're not being disrespectful towards conservatives. They disagree with the selection because they just think the end doesn't justify the means. And you should be respectful towards their opinions.

I se your point, but I don't really think that Jack Thompson wants to harm people with his actions unlike Mr Mugabe. Besides, I doubt half of the people posting here would dare go up to the man in person and tell him what they think of him.

The problem isn't that they disagree, infact I think his policy is bullshit. But I can respect that he actualy takes it seriously, something I think the gaming community at large should do also.

Either way, sooner or later Jack will have a heart attack when he sees Gears of War 2 and just be replaced by a younger, slightly more energetic, attorney waving around the Christ stick wishing to beat fingerquotes "Christian" value into the lesser minded video game demographic.

It hardly matters though, the general public doesn't give two shits about Jack Thompson and ever since the Penny Arcade incident he's lost any and all political pull.

Well this is quite an interesting predicament.

Kudos to Thompson for winning the award, if the award actually meant something, but he really did not deserve it considering what he's done. You know:

"Thompson's Freedom Award overlooks aspects of his life and career including being found guilty of 27 offenses, among them knowingly making false statements and engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation, for which he has been recommended for a ten-year disbarment. Thompson also inclused of gay pornography in his court filings and called for the impeachment of the Utah Attorney General when it was suggested a videogame bill Thompson authored would be unconstitutional."

All of that crap. And the letter to Take 2s MOTHER.

If he didn't do all of that crap then he might have deserved this "prodigious" award (though i know nothing of the award)

I know that thompson is just an over protective parent, and i respect his actions and stuff (except for the extremely stupid ones) but how on earth did he ever win an award with everything he's done.

But still, congratulations, woopdedo, let's pretend this never happend.

How am I supposed to take this guy seriously?! He puts pornography in court files, writes insulting letters to the mother of the opposing party and overall makes life hard for anyone who gets in his way.

Yeah, and you know why? Because he'll sue you if you do! I would dare, but I don't think it's worth it. You're not going to make him change his ways and the risk of legal action is just not worth it.

Well, I'd say Take Two, Janet Reno, Luther Campbell, Madonna, Viacom, Terry Donovan, Strauss Zelnik and his mum, Midway Games, Thomas Warren, Electronic Arts, NIMF, Tyndale House, Valve, Howard Stern, The Florida Bar, Judge Larry Sedlin, Matt and Trey Parker, Tycho and Brahe etc. might just disagree on that.

Besides, I doubt half of the people posting here would dare go up to the man in person and tell him what they think of him.
Believe me, at least one would.

I somewhat agree... but treating him like a martyr is going WAY too far.

Make that two. Anyone else think we should kidnap him for a month and force him to play videogames?

I would prefer making him play GTA 4.
Then he would have to play a game that involves nude women.

He sues videogame companies only because he is like "Look at me everyone, im the worlds biggest WANKER! Pay attention to me bitches!"

There's a lot of smart people in America who don't deserve to be there right now. Let's set up a new country in Ouray, Colorado. Anyone read Atlas Shrugged?

I suggest starting our own country... IN SPACE! Our flag would obviously have a picture of the Escapist logo with the ZP logo. EPICNESS!

I think my idea is better.

Put him at my place. I'll strap him to a chair, put in Mass Effect, and tell him the only time he gets fed is on the completion of a main quest. Then when he's done, we can move on to some other story-heavy game. He'd either have an epiphany, or starve to death. Either way, I win >:)

Okay maybe that's a little sadistic...

Thompson, described in the Deseret News as "a lawyer dedicated to protecting children from violence, obscenity and pornography in the media," was given the award for his dedication to the freedom of families, according to America's Freedom Festival Director Paul Warner...
Could someone remind me of when game companies started enslaving families again?
