It's painfully obvious that Jack Thompson's actions have nothing to do with religion. He has mentioned Christianity a mere few times, just as many people have, to give some sort of justification for their selfish actions. What he is doing has nothing to do with Christianity. By all means, stand opposed to Jack Thompson and others like him, but don't confuse the issue by carelessly throwing religion into it.
I was misinformed. Thanks for the heads up - apparently I was thinking of a different face with that name, anyway, thanks again.

Oh and as an addon

As a Muslim, I am offended by his assuming that we will all go to Jahannam.

The source of this thing is pcmag.com

If true, then that's incredibly stupid.

Even if it isn't, there can only be one outcome: Jack will get caught someday obsessively playing violent videogames. Then he'll go to some kind of rehab and will afterwards claim to be cured, before he disappears from the world completely.

God damn it; when are we going to get a media outlet that's NOT going to fucking grovel at the will of the censors. "Oh, you can play as the taliban!" For fuck sakes, you can play as the taliban in Modern Warfare. Granted they weren't called the Taliban, but it was the same damn thing.

I wish him nothing more than a nice long stay in a secure medical facility and the ministrations of skilled and well-trained medical psychologists, because there is clearly something wrong with this guy's head.

Wishing violence and death on the mentally disturbed is no way to run a society. Well, ok, maybe those who are intrinsically and gleefully murderous because of it, but 100 or so years ago this guy would have been the local kook stood down on the street corner raving about the evils of wireless telegraphy, phonographs, horseless carriages and contract bridge, being cheerfully ignored by most of the town and living off their charity, if he wasn't in some godawful asylum.

Well ok, that's maybe taking it too far. But the guy doesn't know when to STFU even in the face of what have, so far, been some pretty harsh penalties. Probably some kind of dissociative disorder with a side of pathological denial that his misfortune to date has anything to do with his own actions and needless trash talk.

hem dazon 90: forums around the world need to take on the facebook "like" button, because then I would be able to "like" your post so hard.
though i am myself a fairly godless, heathen type, i recognise the good work that is done far more often than evil in the name of most major religions, and there's nothing more damaging to that, and people's peaceful faith, than manipulative fools coming out like this and abusing the concepts within for their own ends.

That suddenly reminds be of that toy given to Bart in an espisode of the Simpsons in which it's a small black pod with three buttons on it, which say in order "Shut up", "Go to hell" and "Kiss my ass".

You know though, looking back on it, I apologize if my post seemed a bit harsh. I'm just used to people throwing religion in whenever they don't like something, and it really gets to me sometimes. I stand by what I said, but I'm sorry if the wording or tone was offensive.

Come on guys enough with the death wishes and mental asylums. We're better than this. We must act like civilized people and show him he is wrong about us. I remember that a bunch of gamers before sent him flowers to show him that we as gamers are normal non psychotic people. Though he did just end up throwing them out though.

here ya go:

I'll post here what I put in that comment thread:
Telling us to go to hell, then offering to send us there quickly constitutes verbal assault. We should sue him. Lets give him a few extra blemishes on his "I win, as usual" record and see how casual he is about it.

While I do not agreed with his ideas, verbally-attacking him just validates his radical viewpoint.

I don't wish death upon him, I wish that he plays some games rather than just assume that they're all kids toys rather than a medium similar to any other.

He still acts like a douche though.
I actually have no reason to quote you, other than to appreciate and bring attention to your awesome screen name and avatar! Clank FTW

I blame EA for having their balls retract into their stomach.

Buckling under the pressure only makes arsehats like this all the more likely to make the videogame industry look bad.

There is no code to send yourself to hell. That's just silly. Now, a code to send OTHER people to hell... Hee hee hee hee hee...

(Hell for Jack Thompson is to be stuck forever in Jack Thompson: The Gory Violent Video Game of Fail and Murder, and guess who gets murdered and fails alot. Go on.)

I honestly can't understand why gaming journalists insist on giving this guy attention. He's been disbarred. He's made a laughingstock of himself, even among the decidedly anti-gaming Focus on the Family crowd. It's over. He's utterly harmless. So what if he continues to mouth off? Who cares?

You know, amusingly enough when he mentioned the cheat code to get to hell the first thing I thought of was the video game "Escape From Hell". An awesome game from yesteryears using the engine of the original "Wasteland" where your character is the game's designer who was sucked into hell while thinking about making a game to hell and accidently creating a spell. He has to rescue his two friends, defeat the devil, and get out. Along the way teaming up with guys like Hitler, Stalin, Ghenghis Khan, and various fictional damned characters (like oddly enough Doctor Jekyll) who join his party and fight alongside him. :)

Oh, poor Mr Thompson.

How little he knows of anything. It's a wonder he even gets TV coverage any more.
