I just bought Bioware's 'Jade Empire' off Steam for half price, and I'm having a problem with getting it to work at all. It asks to start the game through the Launcher (which I do), and then I get the message 'Failed to find Steam' and am redirected to Steampowered.com.
Basically, coming from a not-really-tech-savvy-in-the-slightest guy who would like to play the game he paid for, could someone please do me the kindness of telling me what's wrong and/or how to get it working with laborious, step-by-step instructions? Apparently this Steam game in particular has had issues launching properly, but either I'm not following their instructions right or there's something different about my computer.
For the record, I have Windows 7, a 32-bit Operating System and it plays games like Psychonauts and Mass Effect fine.
Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat, although you might be able to get some assistance from the Steam forums as some people have figured it out for their systems. It was working fine until at least 6? months ago and I have honestly no clue as to why that happened.

Not sure of the answer, I don't have this on Steam, but I'd feel the Steam community forums would provide more answers.

Try here:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2796942&page=3

And then here:

And maybe here too:

Fastest solution I can spot that seems to have worked is this one:
Another easy solution... Open notepad, leave blank and save as SystemInformation.xml to the jade empire data folder (...steam\steamapps\common\jade empire\data) and it will skip the system configuration for first launch without the .exe renaming mess...
The cause of the issue is that Jade Empire assumes the location of your Steam folder is the default location for a Windows XP install. This issues occurs on Windows 7 and Windows Vista, where the default install directory is not the case.

Hope it helps, and best of luck.

Try saving it in a different location.
Kotor 2 had a bug where it would only work if it wasn't saved in program files.

I bought the game two days ago: had same issue on win7 64bit. VERY simple fix for me.

I did some googling, tried some renaming of files, which didn't work, then found the fix.

1. close steam.
2. open steam as administrator.

The game works for me now, as long as steam is opened as an administrator.

ALSO there is another issue you need to be aware of. The mouse cursor in Jade Empire steam addition has a bug where it's invisible unless you crank the resolution up. I suggest you open the config option on starting it and set the resolution as high as you can get it.

I actually tried playing this again after reading the OP and even though the game ran when I bought it ages ago sure enough the same issue cropped up, tried the deleting of the sysinfo.xml etc but this was the easiest fix.
