I actually had a classmate once that I learned was from Iran. He had black hair, but was otherwise just as white as me. He was probably almost the only one, but maybe that type of phenomenon is enough of an excuse for producers?
A lot of Iranians have white skin (Most don't though). I think it's because we came from the Aryans, but I don't know.

Did people make this much fuss over Highlander?

That had Sean Connery as an ancient Egyptian, Christopher Lambert as a Scottish Highlander and Clancy Brown as a ancient Russian.
I've met some really light skinned Egyptians and let us not forget that the royal house Cleopatra belonged to had Greek ancestry.

Well I agree with you and I will suggest an actor that could Play the part. http://michiko280.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/kumar.jpg

Sorry but he is the only Arabic actor I can think of at the moment.
Thats the problem. He's about the only guy I an think of too, and he's not even that great an actor.

If Hollywood were to go with someone asian, it'd have to be an unknown, or someone we know very little of. And with a big bugget movie like this, I can see them not wanting to take that risk. Doesn't mean I'm happy about it...

It has to be said, in the origanal game, the prince didn't look Asian AT ALL. He was about as white you get, he just had a slight accent.

JD or the arab from lost are pretty much who I think of when I imagine a POP movie.
Thankfully there is a chance it wont suck.

Well seeing where the last POP game was going, you can sort of tell they don't really care much in that regards.

This is almost as pathetic as the news that twilight will be getting sequel movies. Or that the americans are going to attempt to remake Absolutely Fabulous and V.

That exact one. ABC is gonna have a go at it.
Fox is attempting AbFab, which I'd say will be as close and like the british original as the yank version of Kath & Kim is to our original (not even remotely).
For one last giggle, Sci-Fi is making a new Stargate series, that, from everything I've read, is going to be Star Trek: Voyager in the stargate universe.

For some good news: Lance Henriksen is guest starring on ncis at some point, and the Legend of the Seeker has been renewed for a 2nd season.

AbFab in America? Preposterous I say! It will never work and will bomb.

New V? It could work. I will give that one a chance.

New Stargate? I don't care either way.

Henrisksen on NCIS? Awesome!

the Legend of the Seeker? What?

Well, I hate to start thread jacking (who am I kidding, no I don't. anything that takes away from the preposterous casting of jake bloody gyllenhaal as the prince of persia)...

Legend of the Seeker is a series loosely based on terry goodkind's book Wizard's First Rule. It doesn't really follow the story that well (and let's face it, you need to take creative license to make a fantasy novel work as a tv show), but the actors are good, sets and effects are really quite nice for a tv show, and best of all, Sam Raimey is the person responsible for it, so I expect to see Bruce Campbell show up sooner or later.

Do you want Tom Cruise playing Muhammad Ali?
Biographic and historical films are sort of a special case because there is the cultural expectation of a certain kind of visual fidelity. And Muhammad Ali is a particular challenge in this regard because a significant part of his story is directly tied to his identity as a black man -- the civil rights movement, Ali's entry into the Nation of Islam, the story about him throwing his medal into a river after being refused service in a "whites-only" restaurant, &c.

In a different medium, it's a lot less of an issue. We expect plays to be somewhat minimalist or symbolic or surrealistic, so a particularly talented white actor could probably pull off Muhammad Ali on stage. If you're talking about characters that aren't already defined rigidly in the public mind, then race is pretty much no problem whatsoever. If you say a play about 19th-century German schoolboys and the two main characters were played by actors of Asian and African descent, would you care?

In a different genre, like fantasy movies, race is also less of an issue. I wouldn't particularly mind a black Aragorn, for example, and he's the extreme because the character is so well-defined and popular.

They're not seriously going to put make up on him, are they?

If so, I find the idea hilarious and misguided, kind of somewhere in-between Al Jolson [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b_aU3TeDMnE] (misguided).
Not to seem like I condone such behavior, but the thought of Jake Gyllenhall in blackface, doing Mammy dressed as the Prince of Persia, is hereby the funniest mental image I've had all day.

I strongly disagree with the choice, the only reason that jake gyllenhaal was picked was because is they wanted make a blockbuster and they feel it would be safer to bank on a white actor.
Even if the movie is based of a video game, the protaganist role should go to an actor who can directly be identified to the country of region tthat the movie is titled is based on "Prince of Persia" (Persia is modern day Iran)
In the event we cannot get an actor from the exact region, for hollywood standards an actor close to or similar attributes will should be used to play the main character.
Iron man,Spiderman, or a movie such the Hitman are not played any other ethnic group so why should this movie be any different.
I like jake gyllenhaal he's a very good actor,I especially like him in Jarhead and Donnie Darko
But this has nothing to do with his acting its about the role of potryal of the characater
I am not farmilar with the audtion process nor am I aware of the options they had considered but it is my understanding that was Jake offered this role and if this is the case I find that a bit disturbing.
Actors who I felt could have been considered for the role were like Naveen Andrews I know he is Indian backgorund however he is raised in England, but he has a very good portayal of is roles from lost to gindhouse he a very good actor.Another person Kal Penn, very versalite I have seen him drama and comedy I believe he is indian background as well but born in the United States.
Oded Fehr from the Resident Evil movies,The Mummy franchise and Deuce Bigelow is Isreali but very has worked in budget project movies and has leading role written all over him.
David k.Zandi not sure of his acting abiity but he from Iran and he does work with ET it could have been an oppurtunity for him

Well I hope for future projects they consider this, either that or I'm just ranting and I know it really doesnt mean anything but I felt this was something that had to be said
