James Bond Game Maker Folds

Eurocom's 42 remaining employees have been made redundant and the company has ceased to trade.

Eurocom, maker of GoldenEye 007: Reloaded and Quantum of Solace, is out of business. The company has gone into administration as part of the winding-up process, and the remaining 42 staff - the few left after a cull of over 150 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120768-Heavy-Layoffs-Hit-007-Legends-Studio] in November - have been made redundant.

The game maker put out a lot of titles over its 25 years of operation, including many film tie-in games such as Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World's End and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Its most recent release was 007 Legends [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/9714-E3-Preview-007-Legends] featuring Judi Dench voicing M, which didn't do good business.

Eurocom tried a last-ditch effort to save itself by playing for time, filing a Notice of Intention to Appoint an Administrator at Court to appease creditors and the taxman, with a view to using the borrowed time to sign new deals and get some working capital. This scheme didn't pan out, and Eurocom had no choice but to fold.

"The Directors of Eurocom would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to all their staff that have been made redundant at this difficult time," said the company in an official statement, "and show their appreciation of all of their hard work in consistently delivering exceptional games."

I'll play some TWINE in the morning, and do them the courtesy of pretending it was the only game they ever made. I'm sure that's how they'll always want to be remembered.

Eurocom is only a few miles from where i live, i would pass it every time i went to Derby.
It was good, it seemed to me, to have a game development studio so close even if they mostly did make absolute rubbish as you could at least look at their games and know exactly where they were made when usually such places seem so distant and faceless and in the past they did make some good games.

Don't forget Redwood Shores for Dead Space-related bullshit, plus whichever "lucky" team is being asked to polish off The Sims 4.

It hasn't been announced or anything, but you'd be crazy not to think it's in the works.

Man, Eurocom used to be a really big studio. Shame to see so many devs lose their jobs :/

When did we stop referring to these people as videogame developers?

I picked up a copy of 007: Legends in my local game shop and it didn't look too impressive. Kinda feel bad I didn't buy it now!

Dead Space and The Sims are EA franchises, not Activision.

Of that's too bad. Even if they did make some shovelware, it's sad to see a company go under and people loss their jobs.

Also, mindless Activision hate? Really? Over a hundred people are now unemployed, shed at least one tear you jerks.

i am sorry for the people who lost their job.

but at the same time i must say that the ported pc version of 007: legend was one of the most stinking piles of shit i have seen in a long time.
and including daniel craig in old titles.... i.. well, nostalgia is affecting me, so i will remain silent on this part.

and they made most of the worst video games we have seen in the new millennia.

it was just a matter of time that they would go under with that direction.
no one will support a shitty game.

and they showed they can do better with quantum of solance. and it had some hickups.
Yeah sad they lost their jobs but I regretted playing (much less buying) every title I ever got from them.

Albeit I played most from friends and only bought one, but the new Goldeneye was a train wreck.

I don't know how you make a new game that feels older than the old one :/.

It's always sad when a game developer goes under...but after 007 Legends, this doesn't surprise me at all...

Wow, a "developer" specialising in badly made licensed content? Oh the tears that flow. As THQ is learning, that's a bad business strategy.

I feel sorry for the staff losing their jobs but this is what happens when title after title is underwhelming, usually constricted by whatever licence and unfair deadlines to coincide with the release of a certain product. Shame really but only way the industry will learn.

Hopefully these guys will go on to put their talents into games that actually deserve it.

And the makers of Nightfire have been silenced. Truly the Golden Age of video games was ended when the last PS2 game was made. *salutes*

Whenever I see news about a developper shutting down and I'm reading the comment section, this article always pop in my mind...

http://www.dorkly.com/article/27379/the-dorklyst-7-reasons-you-dont-want-to-work-in-the-video-game-industry (Especially reason no.5)

Anyhow, it's sad to see the developpers of Nightfire bitting the dust. I really wanted to play the reboot of Goldeneye on PS3. Although, it was still 60$ when I checked it out...so no buy.

I could have sworn that the Quantum of Solace game was by Treyarch, not these guys.
