So I watched the new 007 movie "Skyfall".
After I finished watching it, it created some very confusing questions. In this thread I will describe the major one I had in the movie.

So at the last part of the movie we learned that Skyfall is the birthplace of James Bond and of course the Place the Bond family were lived before the tragic accident which the parents of James Bond get killed.

Now I am not a Hardcore or even a very knowledgeable of James Bond series, but I thought James Bond was a fake name.
A name a secret agent use to cover his real name from any kind of danger, mostly from someone to learn who he is and find his place and kill him or even kill his family [if he had a family of course].
Heck, we established that from the first part of the movie. The whole point of the movie at first was 007 to find a list of of secret agents before the names become knowledgeable to the public and of course they become targets from terrorists/mafia/evil secrets organisation/etc.

Finally because I had this idea, I thought the fake name James Bond was also a "title" that goes together with the code number 007.

As I wrote in the title of my thread, my "subconsciousness" had this very strange idea:
Different people that get the code number 007, had also the name James Bond for cover.
SOmething like in the TV series Doctor Who. In this series we know everytime a Doctor finish his "duty", someone else take his place as a new one.
The same idea somehow I had for the James Bond movies. When an Agent finished his duty as an agent, someone else continue his "legacy" and become the new 007.

But saddly it seems I was wrong all this time cause the movie Skyfall we see actually the name James Bond was real after all......

So, whith that said, I am VERY wrong to think about that?

Thank you for your time.

it was just a fan theory

a fan theory that made sense in that it tied all the films together....but still just a fan theory

Yes, but even then there was clearly parts of the movie Skyfall that gave as hints that Sean Connery or other 007 exist. My opinion of course.

James Bond is his actual name. His dad's name is Andrew Bond and his mother's Monique Delacroix. This is established in the books, though I don't think his parents names are mentioned until the last Fleming novel.

Wait, hang on... someone else doesn't take The Doctor's place. He regenerates. They're not constantly giving the job to another Time Lord (they wouldn't be able to do that since Christopher Eccleston anyway). There's a lot of screwy lore surrounding his personality and what memories are his and what not, a product of the regeneration gimmick used to keep the series going after the first actor, but it's not a different person each time. He's still The Doctor.

Yeah, it's always the same character just different actors. There's even a quote from Goldeneye (y'know, the good Brosnan film) semi-reboot/retool of the series where M says Bond is a Cold War relic.

You're missing the key detail about the list of agents: they were all undercover. Bond isn't. He has a cover name in Casino Royale (Beach/Beech), but it's quickly dropped since Le Chiffre is well aware of who he is anyway.

Such as? Other Double-O agents exist, but 007 is one character throughout the franchise. It's just a (needless) way to explain the change in actors.

Thats a good theory and has been used in series like Doctor who to explain a new look or in real life with the Persian 'Immortals' being replaced so as to seem as if the very same people had been there all along.

But as far as the books go its obvious that bond is one man yet the movies were spaced so far apart that new actors were going to be inevitable and its just something we accept, if the next bond movie had a new actor the only thing I would be worried about is if he was good or not.

Besides if bond was a different man each time surely they would act differently, whereas all bonds have been womanizers with witty one liners. Also Blofeld wouldn't be half as pissed off if 'Bond' had kept dying and being replaced and wouldn't keep making plots with SPECTRE to have him killed
